3 Things You Didn’t Know About Buying an Electric Car
Hybrids are out, people
News flash: All-electric cars are becoming more popular than ever. (This commercial with Katie Couric and Bryant Gumbel has us sold.) Here are three things you probably didn’t know about these new eco-friendly rides.
1. You have more options than you think. Many brands make an all-electric model, and they come in a range of prices, too. You can go all fancy with the BMW i3, the Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive or the Tesla Model S. Or go the more practical route with the Chevrolet Spark, Ford Focus Electric or Mitsubishi I-MiEV.
2. You shouldn’t worry too much about charging up. To see where charging stations are in your neck of the woods, check out this locator map. Also good to know: Typical BEVs (battery electric vehicles) can go up to 100 miles on a single charge, and some higher-end models can go as long as 300 miles.
3. You get a tax break. That’s right: When you buy an all-electric vehicle, you get a federal tax credit of up to $7,500.
