If you’ve ever returned from a trip to Europe or South Korea wondering why their sunscreens feel lighter, less greasy and somehow more elegant than the ones at home, you’re not imagining things. After more than two decades without approving a new sunscreen filter, the FDA is finally expanding Americans’ sunscreen options—and dermatologists, cosmetic chemists and beauty editors alike are celebrating.

That’s particularly important because UVA rays (which we know contributes to premature aging and can play a role in skin cancer development) have long been an area where many international sunscreens outperform their American counterparts.

Why U.S. Sunscreens Are Behind the Rest of the World

Unlike many countries, the United States regulates sunscreen as an over-the-counter drug, which means new ingredients face a lengthy approval process. As a result, American formulators have had access to far fewer UV filters than their counterparts in Europe and Asia. Sadly, those featherlight sunscreens you picked up in Paris or Tokyo often aren’t available stateside.

What This Means for You

No, you don’t need to toss your current sunscreen. Dermatologists stress that the SPF products already on shelves remain safe and effective when used correctly. The bigger story is that consumers may soon have access to MORE innovative formulas that feel better on the skin and offer enhanced broad-spectrum protection. 

And if history has taught us anything, it’s that people are more likely to wear sunscreen consistently when they actually enjoy using it. Now, reports are coming in that Swift is getting married in New York. OK, plausible. But where in New York? None other than Madison Square Garden. And that's what triggered my Swiftie senses—really?!

While I'd only call my self a gentle Swiftie, I have listened to her albums enough times to understand that at heart, this girl is a romantic. She is literally living out her fantasy from her 2008 hit "You Belong With Me." Swift got her "boy on the football team" and in the process has also turned into the girl who wears short skirts while still somehow retaining her girl-next-door charm. Every wedding-style dress Swift has ever donned has been big. It's been frilly. (The Eras tour was full of them.) And the venues have been, if not straight-up fairy tale à la "Love Story" have at least been artfully designed (see "I Bet You Think About Me") or appropriately theatrical (see the art accompanying the lyrics booklet for "Speak Now").

Madison Square Garden is...industrial? A misleading behemoth that more resembles a giant cylinder than a square. It's an arena. Quite frankly, it's ugly. Who wants to usher guests through security behind metal barricades and have them strut through windowless tunnel entrances dragging couture gowns behind them and scuffing their Christian Louboutin Miss Zs on sweaty concrete? I mean, unless she brings in a production team (well within her means) to construct a whole stage set on the floor of the Garden, I'm having a really hard time envisioning this. I'm having a hard time envisioning a production team, honestly.

That's because if there's anything else Swift has made apparent during her two-decade tenure in the limelight, it's that she's an impeccable host. Before she wiped her Instagram feed pre-Reputation era, there were snaps of her baking chai cookies with friends. Right now, she's handing out sourdough left and right. Celeb friends have praised her cooking and hostess skills, with collaborator Aaron Dessner saying, "I've spent a lot of time with her and I've never seen anyone wait on her. When I have stayed at her house, Taylor herself was cooking everyone breakfast and dinner." MSG feels uncurated; it lacks warmth. And that flies in the face of Swift's personal brand.

I also think that, for as much as she and Kelce have been open with their relationship in the media (compared to the absolute silence when she was with Joe Alwyn), they're still, on the whole, pretty private. The stories feel polished and somewhat manufactured to get the "awwww, cute" reaction, but it's never anything too revealing. I think they value privacy on some level—they do establish boundaries with staff at venues when they have a night out. One of the arguments for MSG right now is that they will get privacy because it's indoors...but as a New Yorker, let me tell you that if you want privacy, you don't choose one of the Big Apple's most iconic venues, in Midtown, for secrecy. I feel like Nashville, Rhode Island or even LA would be better. (She reportedly owns a 1934 Grecian mansion in Beverly Hills, which feels like a perfect venue, both for privacy and aesthetic sensibility.)

Ultimately, who knows what the venue will actually be? I'm content to find out when we find out, and am just gleeful over the fact that she's getting the fairytale ending she's been writing about for so long.

Taylor Swift Just Dropped a Brand-New Song—and I'm Positive It's an Easter Egg for Something *Huge*

Justin and Hailey Bieber welcomed their son, Jack Blues, into the world in August 2024. However, the couple have largely kept their only child out of the limelight, save for a rare, faceless snap. But there's plenty you can tell about a person without seeing their face, and it's clear from the latest swath of photos that the toddler is very much taking after his dad—at least where fashion and style are concerned.

Bieber posted a carousel of images to Instagram that led with several black-and-white photo booth images of him and Hailey sharing a kiss. Several pictures later, the "Baby" singer is shown supervising Jack as the 1.5 year-old peers into a chicken coop and hangs out with baby goats. The toddler is sporting a baby-blue hoodie and sweatpants set. In a separate Instagram post a few week prior, Jack was photographed wearing the same outfit (likely from the same outing) while perched in his father's arms as Bieber held a fishing pole. From this vantage point, Jack's tiny (and adorable) shoes are visible. They appear to be Adidas's Grand Court 3.0 infant sneakers ($40; $28). The slouchy (but coordinated) outfit has Jack taking after his dad, who is known for leaving the house in sweats that somehow still manage to ooze street style.

The last time Jack made a cameo on his mom's Instagram was back in mid-May, when the model and Rhode founder posted an cute video that she captioned "Personal snack machine." Yep, he feeds her in the video.

Buuuuut, it's a new month, which means more bad news: three fan-favorite shows were just canceled and three more were revealed to be ending unexpectedly. (For those who think those sound like the same thing, the canceled shows won't be getting a proper ending, while the unexpectedly concluding shows have a chance to wrap things up.)

Here, the shows that we'll unwillingly have to say goodbye to (cue the demands for a streaming service to come along and save them).

1. The Hunting Party - Canceled

This crime thriller follows an FBI profiler, played by Melissa Roxburgh, as she tries to track down the country’s most dangerous serial killers who escaped from a secret government prison. I was a huge fan of season one, but my interest waned in season two (which seems to have been a common thread with viewers). Sadly, this week, NBC pulled the plug for good. However, there is a chance the show could be revived by another streaming service like Netflix (which is exactly what happened to another Melissa Roxburgh show, Manifest).

2. The Lincoln Lawyer - Ending

For those who have yet to watch, the show follows a Los Angeles criminal defense attorney who runs his practice from the back of his car (a Lincoln) instead of a traditional office. The good news? There will be one more season of The Lincoln Lawyer. The bad news? That is it for Mickey and company—and fans are not happy. The co-showrunners revealed the series will get a proper sendoff that "will provide the satisfying finale Mickey Haller deserves."

3. Emily in Paris - Ending

It's the end of an era for this romantic comedy-drama starring Lily Collins and a slew of unforgettable looks. Collins revealed in a social media post, "After six unforgettable years of playing Emily Cooper, I'm here to share that this upcoming sixth season will be our final." Filming is already underway for the last season and, fortunately, it seems like Emily will be returning to her Parisian roots after last season's Italian detour.

4. Going Dutch - Canceled

After two seasons, it seems that this Dennis Leary-led comedy has gotten the chop. The move from Fox isn't super surprising as the show was "on the bubble" (a term that means not in great shape for a renewal) earlier this year. I'd also say it wasn't surprising since I'd literally never heard of the show until I read that it was canceled. (Sorry, Dennis.)

5. Euphoria - Ending

In a really weird move, HBO and the creators of Euphoria timed their announcement that season three would be the last with the actual season three finale, giving fans little time to prepare themselves. It shouldn't be too shocking, as the cast has kinda gotten too famous for the show (Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney and Jacob Elordi probably have bigger projects in the works). At the very least, the end of season three/the series was pretty definitive (at least for certain high-profile characters...).

6. So You Think You Can Dance - Canceled

Sure, it's been almost two years since So You Think You Can Dance graced the airwaves. But it was only recently that the Fox Entertainment CEO revealed we wouldn't be getting any more: "There’s no plans to order another season." Ouch. After 18 seasons, you'd think it might get a proper farewell season—or at least make it to a historic season 20. Alas, we'll have to start calling it "So You Think You Got Canceled."

15 Shows and Movies to Watch This Weekend

"Never not inspired by this eternally exceptional artist," Swift wrote in an Instagram story. She re-shared none other than Sir Paul McCartney's announcement of his newest album, which came out on May 29. Swift and the former Beatle go way back; they appeared on a 2020 Rolling Stone cover together after listening to each other's respective releases from that year, folklore and McCartney III. Swift is close friends with McCartney's daughter, the fashion designer Stella, whose clothing Swift wears regularly. In that profile, Swift's admiration is clear and ardent, as she shares: "We walk into his office for a chat, and after I make a nervous request, Paul is kind enough to handwrite my favorite lyric of his and sign it. He makes a joke about me selling it, and I laugh because it’s something I know I’ll cherish for the rest of my life."

McCartney's latest album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, features 14 nostalgic tracks inspired by previously unshared memories, along with some new love songs.

"The album title comes from a lyric in the track 'Days We Left Behind,'" he shared in an Instagram post. "I was thinking just that, about the days I left behind and I do often wonder if I’m just writing about the past but then I think how can you write about anything else?"

This all has to do with the fact that it was a second marriage for both. Of course, members of the royal family have gotten remarried before (ahem, King Charles), but they typically haven’t worn a tiara for the occasion.

For example, Princess Anne opted to wear a floral fascinator of sorts when she wed Sir Timothy Laurence in 1992, her second marriage. Ditto Queen Camilla, who upon her nuptials to then-Prince Charles in 2005, opted for a gold feathered headpiece instead of a sparkly jewel-encrusted tiara. It’s not an official rule that royal brides can’t wear one when celebrating a second marriage, but it’s not tradition either. We love that Sperling decided to chart her own path.

As for the tiara she chose, it has as much personal meaning as it does royal significance. No, it wasn’t plucked from the royal vault, but the delicate and understated Pragnell Tiara is from the same family-owned jewelry house that designed Sperling’s engagement ring, but also happens to have acquired the archives of the jeweler (Philip Antrobus, per the Court Jeweller) that made Queen Elizabeth II’s engagement ring, too. There’s also a fun fact about the tiara, listed on the Pragnell website: It was worn by generations of family members and present at the coronations of both King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II, too.

The Princess of Wales attended the wedding of Phillips and Harriet Sperling alongside Prince William, who donned a morning suit. (Her in-laws were also in attendance.) Princess Catherine opted for a coordinating cream ensemble anchored by a tweed Roland Mouret midi dress and Jane Taylor boater hat. She accessorized with a simple pair of pointed-toe pumps and a raffia clutch. On her wrist was Princess Diana's Nigel Milne Birthright three-strand pearl bracelet.

This isn't the first time the Princess of Wales has opted for a light-colored wedding guest outfit. For her sister Pippa Middleton Matthews's 2017 nuptials, Kate donned a blush ensemble with a floral fascinator.

As for the bride herself, Sperling opted for a Kate-approved designer, Emilia Wickstead, for her ivory white column gown and lace veil. Her bridesmaids, which consisted of daughter Georgina (13) and Phillip's daughters Savannah (15) and Isla (14), also donned Wickstead creations and floral headpieces. Sperling accessorized her bridal look with satin Jimmy Choo slingbacks and a tiara by Pragnell, the jeweler who designed her engagement ring.

Plaza attended Broadway’s biggest night in support of Abbott, who was nominated for Best Actor in a Featured Role in a Play for Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman. The mother-to-be donned a black-and-white striped Chanel slip dress that hugged her baby bump as she stood next to Abbott, himself sporting a black velvet blazer, cropped pants and ankle boots.

People reported that the baby is due in the fall, with a source telling the outlet, “It was a beautiful surprise after an emotional year…they feel very blessed.” The comment was likely alluding to the death of Plaza’s first husband, the screenwriter and director Jeff Baena, in January 2025. The couple had been separated since September 2024. When appearing on Amy Poehler’s podcast later in 2025, Plaza said, “Overall I’m here and I’m functioning and I feel really grateful to be moving through the world. I’m OK. But, you know, it’s a daily struggle, obviously.”

Abbott and Plaza met back in 2019 when both were cast in the psychological thriller, Black Bear, and attended the 2020 Sundance Film Festival together to promote the film. The 2026 Tonys outing made the pair red-carpet official. Sadly, Abbott lost the award to Alden Ehrenreich of Becky Shaw. First, a royal disclaimer: According to reports, Charles had already committed to attending the Epsom Derby before Phillips and Sperling confirmed their wedding date and sent out invites. As a mom in her 40s, I have a long list of requirements when it comes to finding a swimsuit that fits and feels flattering enough to chase my kids around the beach, but also to snap cute selfies in a poolside lounge chair. The tie straps help, too, allowing you to adjust the fit exactly how you like it. (They’re also super helpful for moms who are nursing—I was during this trip.)

In my case, I spent the day playing Marco Polo with my 8-year-old and his cousins before dashing over to the splash pad to help my husband corral my 1-year-old, who was hellbent on climbing up the water slide the wrong way. Still, during the rare moments when I sipped an Arnold Palmer poolside or cracked open my book

, I felt chic and put-together. The only criticism I have is that it occasionally took me a few times to get the bow tie straps perfectly even. But that had more to do with my own quest for precision than the suit itself.

I’m 5’2” and Fell in Love with These Ultra-Flattering Looks from Boden’s Spring Collection

Spoiler: I’m so glad I did, even if researching the recipe (and its backstory) left me scratching my head.

You see, there isn’t an exact recipe for the Duchess of Cambridge’s watermelon salad, and she hasn’t officially confirmed whether it’s something she eats all the time. So, while many people seek out her specific recipe, it has yet to be shared. It’s more of a concept really, based on an Express story from 2022, in which nutrition experts at Barbend stated that, based on research they’d conducted, “watermelon salads are a staple of Kate’s lunches, and include juicy pink watermelon mixed with avocado, onion, cucumber and feta cheese,” deeming it “the perfect mix of sweet and savory."

Since that story was published, the idea of the salad has taken on a life of its own (much like the viral Jennifer Aniston salad, which Aniston later shared wasn’t actually something she ate every day while filming Friends). Every summer, the “Kate Middleton watermelon salad” makes the rounds across social media, and for good reason: Whether it’s hers or not, it is a great mix of sweet and savory. It’s a refreshing, low-lift meal that can wow a crowd, making it a great side for any cookout or party. Or just a random Tuesday, when you want to bust out of a lunch or dinner rut.

In a way, this is liberating—take the idea and do with it what you want. Make it your watermelon salad, using this suggestion as a jumping-off point. And if you’re not sure where to start, I’ll share the viral take on the salad, as well as my balsamic-lime version. (And if you have an alternate recipe, I’d love to hear that too. How to Make *Your* Version of the “Kate Middleton Watermelon Salad”

The most popular riff on the watermelon salad is Chef Alex Hyslop’s, who paired it with mint leaves and a simple, five-ingredient vinaigrette made with apple cider vinegar, olive oil, lime juice, salt and pepper. It adds brightness and a little zing to the dish, melding the flavors together. (This take was so massively popular that we tried it back in 2023 for our series Celeb Bites, which you can watch in the video below.)

Mint isn’t my thing, and after noting a former colleague’s review that the apple cider vinegar was a bit harsh for her liking, I kept the key Middleton ingredients—watermelon, avocado, onion, cucumber and feta—and added a little chopped cilantro for an herbaceous note, plus a balsamic-based vinaigrette to offer sweetness and tanginess.

Basically, the core ingredients are fine on their own, but adding a light vinaigrette punches up the flavor and creates more of a throughline in the dish, rather than just an assembly of ingredients. (It’s also a great way to liven up any lackluster produce, should your watermelon turn out not as sweet and ripe as you’d like, or your avocado more tofu-like than creamy.)

My Take on the Kate Middleton Watermelon Salad

If I were serving this to the Duchess of Cambridge (dear Catherine, you are welcome to DM me anytime!), here’s how I’d prepare it. For presentation’s sake, I recommend tossing the watermelon, cucumber, onion and cilantro together, then topping it with feta and avocado, stirring those in just before serving with the vinaigrette. The vinaigrette is flavorful enough that it doesn’t need to marinate the ingredients beforehand, like you do with pasta and potato salads. You can drizzle, toss and serve right away, making this even easier to throw together before people come over for a summertime dinner party.

It’s tangy, sweet and just a little briny, making it a lovely accompaniment to grilled chicken, burgers, hot dogs and barbecue.

Watermelon Salad

5 to 6 cups cubed seedless watermelon (about 1 mini watermelon)

1 English cucumber, diced

½ white onion, diced

1 tablespoon chopped cilantro

1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese

1 avocado, diced

Balsamic-Lime Vinaigrette

¼ cup balsamic vinegar

1 tablespoon honey

Juice of 1 lime (about 2 ounces)

1 clove garlic, minced

½ cup extra virgin olive oil

Salt, to taste

Pepper, to taste

Prepare the Salad: In a large mixing bowl or salad bowl, combine watermelon, cucumber, onion and cilantro, stirring until combined. Top with feta and avocado.

Make the Balsamic-Lime Vinaigrette: Combine all ingredients into a small bowl and whisk, or into a cocktail shaker, shaking until fully combined.

Just before serving, drizzle half of the vinaigrette onto the salad, tossing lightly to combine ingredients. Serve remaining vinaigrette on the side, should anyone want more. (Or save for future use.)

In a recent interview with E! News, the "Just Give Me a Reason" singer, 46, opened up about her 15-year-old daughter, who is currently pursuing a career in Broadway theater. While talking about Willow's ambitions, Pink revealed the straightforward advice she gives her, and honestly, it feels like something people of any age could benefit from hearing.

“I told her she just has to work hard and be a good person and show up and be a good teammate and work hard,” Pink said. Boom.

“She is now finally at the age where she would like to do her own thing, which I think is boring,” Pink laughed, hinting that she'd rather spend more time together. “She's doing the damn thing. 2025 Was the Year of Maternal Rage. 2026 Is the Year We Put It to Use

The pop icon, 44, recently debuted a fresh new look thanks to celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton. In a June 1 Instagram post, Appleton shared a photo of himself posing alongside Spears, who appeared to have traded her signature beachy waves for sleek, pin-straight hair styled with a deep side part.

The look immediately transported me back to the early 2000s, with flashbacks to Britney's iconic "Oops!… I Did It Again" era. But while the hairstyle itself caught plenty of attention, the comments section quickly became less about the hair and more about fans showing their love for Britney.

Hailey Bieber may have called Pilates overrated, but the impossible-to-get-off-of waitlist at my reformer studio would undoubtedly say otherwise. If you, too, love a good Pilates workout, you know the pre-class vibes are unmatched: stretching, selfie-ing, catching up with friends. But, according to Kira Jones, founder of Cacti Wellness, a digital lifestyle platform featuring workouts, meditations and productivity tips, your go-to instructor is clocking more than just your cute new 437 workout set. In fact, she’s probably focused on what is (or isn’t) on your feet, and it’s the one mistake that could be sabotaging your workout.

Whether you’re showing up completely barefoot or in your worn-out college tube socks, Jones says this is the ultimate Pilates faux pas. “While some people think it's best to practice barefoot, many mat surfaces are slick or smooth,” she says, “and as you move and sweat, you'll start to slide.”

Take it from me: Plank-to-pikes are hard enough without having to contend with a slick surface and compromised form. “How your feet grip the mat makes all the difference in executing exercises properly,” and that goes for both reformer and mat Pilates. Plus, going barefoot on shared studio equipment could expose you to a whole slew of hygiene risks, like plantar warts and athlete’s foot.

Eugenie, 36, recently took to Instagram to celebrate her second son, Ernest, turning three on May 30. The post included four never-before-seen photos, giving fans a rare glimpse into their family life.

Moley is also the newest addition to the royal dog lineup. Buckingham Palace announced her arrival back in May 2025 with a sweet photo of Queen Camilla holding the pup in her lap.

But what if the secret to tackling all of these issues was hiding in…your ears? That’s the general idea behind ear seeds, a wellness treatment that falls under acupuncture in the Traditional Chinese Medicine umbrella. Ear seeds have popped up on TikTok feeds everywhere, with sometimes questionable claims. Here, I sit down with an acupuncture expert to explain auriculotherapy benefits, ear acupressure points and how to do it yourself.

Meet the Expert

Gudrun Wu Snyder is the founder of Moon Rabbit Acupuncture, a Chicago-based wellness practice that blends Traditional Chinese Medicine with modern integrative care. Moon Rabbit provides services like acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, gua sha, cupping, massage therapy and fertility-focused massage. Snyder holds a Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine and B.S. in Economics, Minor in Neuro-Psychology from the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, where she was also trained and certified as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). Snyder is a graduate of Stanford University's Graduate School of Business Management program. She is a Vanderbilt University Board Certified Acupuncturist and NCCAOM Certified Medical Qigong Practitioner.

What Are Ear Seeds?

Ear seeds, sometimes referred to as acupuncture ear seeds, don’t actually involve needles. Instead, Dr. Snyder explains, beads are secured with adhesive to acupressure points on the ear. The bead’s material varies widely; Moon Rabbit uses 24k gold and Swarovski crystals. The designation of “ear seed” harkens back to the original Vaccaria seeds used in the ancient Chinese Traditional Medicine practice, but today, they’re often also made of sterling silver and titanium. They’re about the size of a pencil tip.

The ear has roughly 300 acupressure points that form a sort of ersatz map of the body, Dr. Snyder tells me. Auriculotherapy, colloquially referred to as ear acupuncture or acupressure, describes the practice of stimulating these reflex points. The benefits are wide ranging; Dr. Snyder cites examples like immune support, hormonal balance, digestive support, pain relief, stress reduction and better sleep.

The Benefits of Ear Seeds (Auriculotherapy)

Though TCM has existed for thousands of years, Western medicine is just now catching up. Many studies now back up its claims, including these 2025 studies supporting evidence that acupuncture can alleviate pain and manage stress. The Mayo Clinic even offers the service.

Ear Seeds for Anxiety

A 2022 study researched the benefits of using ear acupressure points to treat anxiety and concluded that the treatment was effective. Researchers emphasized the shen men (also known as the “spirit gate,” connected to your mind and emotions), brainstem, kidney, sympathetic, lung and liver acupoints; targeting these points led to reduction in stress and anxiety (but, notably, not burnout).

Ear Seeds for Insomnia and Sleep

Dr. Snyder uses ear seeds to treat insomnia in some of her patients. A 2025 systematic review published in the National Library of Medicine evaluated the efficacy of auriculotherapy in improving sleep quality and concluded that the effects were net positive when combined with more conventional treatments.

Ear Seeds for Pain Relief

Acupuncture in general is now becoming more widely accepted as a treatment for pain relief, as National Geographic recently explored. In fact, the publication reports, some studies have even raised the possibility of acupuncture reducing both pain and the need for highly addictive opioid medications. When it comes to ear seeds, there are acupressure points in the ear that can be targeted to help manage pain, from migraines to neck aches.

How to Apply Ear Seeds Safely at Home

Ear seeds can be easily applied at home, Dr. Snyder says. If 300 acupressure points sounds overwhelming, don’t panic. You don’t need to master 300 points or be super precise.

“The wonderful thing about ear seeding is that you really can't mess it up,” she assures me. “This is more of a target versus a pinpoint of a point on your ear.”

Ear seeing kits, like Moon Rabbit’s ($45), will often come with a guide that shows you the most popular and general acupressure points. For example, Moon Rabbit’s guide illustrates ten points, while also explaining what each can address. Broadly, Dr. Snyder likens the ear as a microcosm and map of the body, and the ear is a person curled in a fetal position, upside down.

“The head is around the earlobe, the feet are up near the top, so the spine is along the back of your ear,” she explains. Everything correlates: internal organs in the inner part of your ear, upper body near the ear lobe, and so on.

When it comes to application, as long as you’re in the ballpark, you’ll benefit.

“Let's say you have neck pain and you don't put it exactly on the neck pain area,” Dr. Snyder says. “You're probably going to put it on the shoulder area, or on the low part of your head area. Both are probably bothering you, too, if you have neck pain. So when you're treating these sorts of areas, even if you don't get it exactly right, because our body is connected, you're going to do something that is going to help the thing you need.”

Kits usually have the seed attached to a medical-grade adhesive, which you can stick on your ear. After that, you’re free to go about your daily life, including showering, washing your hair and going to the gym. If one falls off, simply pop on a new one. Dr. Snyder recommends leaving an ear seed on for at least five days to start seeing benefits, but no more than two weeks. And overall, it’s best not to proactively treat a symptom; wait until you’re experiencing it to apply. Dr. Snyder ascribes to the adage, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” with the exception of ear seeds for immunity. It’s fine to give that a little boost.

Safety: Who Should Avoid Ear Seeds

Most people can benefit from ear seeds, including children as young as three years old, she says. Dr. Snyder’s only real caution was for those who have a hole in their ear drum. The possibility is incredibly small, but if an ear seed lost its adhesive, it could fall into said hole.

There is advice out there that advises against ear seeds during pregnancy, claiming it can induce labor. Talking with Dr. Snyder, the opinion is pretty split, even amongst professionals. Some say have a professional do the ear seeds for you, especially if you’ve previously experienced pregnancy loss. Overall, it remains a case-by-case situation that is best evaluated by you and your medical professional.

Having just moved to Los Angeles from NYC, I've been spending my weekends exploring my new city. Last Saturday—a sunny day in May—I took an Uber over to Brentwood Country Mart, a red, barn-shaped shopping center dotted with luxury fashion and beauty retailers, cute cafes and farm-to-table eateries. It's known to be frequented by celebrities and, as I witnessed, some very fashionable people.

Somewhere between getting my second iced coffee of the day and sampling the skincare at Goop, I began to notice something: green utility pants. That's the second—no, the fourth—pair I've seen so far! Given that I am a fashion editor who can't resist investigating a good trend, I shifted my focus from the racks to my fellow shoppers. Sure enough, green utility pants were everywhere. Worn with black flip-flops, white sneakers, brown Birkenstocks, tanks, tees and cardis, all by women who seemed to embody the idea of "laid-back chic." I couldn't help but have a flashback to the 2000s, when army-hued cargo pants were having such a moment that they were forever immortalized in the defining film of the era. "I saw Cady Heron wearing army pants and flip-flops, so I bought army pants and flip-flops."

Equal parts comfortable and functional, it makes sense that these bottoms are making a comeback for relaxed weekends around town. They've even gotten a stamp of approval from millennial icon Mandy Moore, who may have explained it best in a recent interview with PureWow: "The world feels chaotic, and I think in times like these, plugging into something that feels familiar and comfortable is just the way to go. On June 1st, the tennis champ announced her return to the sport, using an IG post to signal her comeback after a four-year break with the caption, “Good news travels fast.” Williams is set to play her first match next week on Monday, alongside partner Victoria Mboko during the HSBC Championships at Queen's Club in London as a doubles wild card, ESPN reports. She paired her post with the caption: "The wait was part of the story," and fans can't contain their excitement in the comments, with one writing,"Glad that part of the story is over. Welcome back queen!!!" Her entire outfit consisted of a sleek white tank, a matching pleated tennis skirt and an ultra-long windbreaker.

The 44-year-old legend has always been known for her striking fashions both on and off the court. (I'm still stuck on her Met Gala look from last month.) The star's unconventional sporty wardrobe—and and her domination of the competition—is what made her stand out. Who could forget her use of vibrant hues and bold animal prints, and even the appearance of a denim tennis skirt?

Her recent posts have me excited for what's yet to come, with loads of questions in mind about her comeback. Will we see the return of her tutu? Will there be any cutesy mother-daughter twinning moments with Olympia and Adira? Will she pull a Naomi Osaka? I guess we'll have to wait and see.

It's Official: Serena Williams Is Back

On a recent appearance on Today, the Marty Supreme star shared her recipe for turkey meatballs. As she mixes ingredients, she casually mentions, "if you want to avoid dairy, one trick that I do, I dice up arugula and put it in."

Cue the memes, quips and trolls across social media and Reddit: "nightmare fuel," "dang, I could have been putting arugula in my coffee all this time," gifs of Danny DeVito shaking his head. Based on the short clips shared online, it can seem at first like she's referring to using arugula as a substitute for milk, but she's actually referring to using the peppery green as a way to add flavor and texture to the dish, instead of Parm (which her recipe traditionally calls for).

"It sounds weird, but it kind of adds, like, a nice texture to it," Paltrow explains when Today show host Savannah Guthrie questions the addition.

It sparked so much fanfare that Guthrie and fellow Today co-hosts Carson Daly, Al Roker, Craig Melvin, Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones, later sat down to try the meatballs with arugula.

"I actually think they're very good; maybe the arugula [is] even better," Guthrie said.

Melvin also noted that they were "pretty good," though it seemed like Daly wasn't as sold on the swap. "That doesn't taste like a substitute for dairy," he announced.

As a food editor and recipe developer, I can understand people's balking. You won't get the same briny, cheesy notes that you'd get from Parmesan, but it will create a more complex flavor and a lighter, more delicate texture (particularly if you don't mound and roll the meatballs too much). It's a vitamin-packed substitute and workaround for adding flavor without adding salt, too.

Paltrow's lifestyle brand, Goop, even got in on the joke, sharing people's comments in a carousel of images on Instagram with the caption, "in our defense, it's very versatile." The brand also shared a screenshot of a recipe from 2015 for Pesto Kelp Noodle Salad with Arugula, noting, "we never stopped."

Whether intentional or not, the viral comment did exactly what her Today appearance was intended to do: Promote Goop Kitchen, the takeout and delivery-only restaurant she recently launched. The chain has 13 locations in California and recently expanded to New York—and yes, turkey meatballs are on the menu.

But, for anyone living outside of those states, all hope is not lost. You can still try the meatballs (with Parm or arugula) by making them yourself. Paltrow shared the recipe via Goop Kitchen's Instagram account, which you can find below.

On hand to shine a spotlight on the Manchester-based treatment center, which focuses on holistic care for cancer patients, the Princess of Wales joined patient Claire Lorente and her family for a hugely celebratory moment: Ringing the bell to mark Claire’s last day of treatment for breast cancer.

A video clip shared by Hello! made clear how emotional it was for everyone in the room, Catherine included. The Princess of Wales can be heard cheering Claire on, saying, “Well done, you!” before wrapping her up in a hug. Catherine then turns and speaks directly to Claire’s husband, who was visibly shaken. “I know it’s just as hard for families and loved ones. I know how hard it was for the children and my parents. You go through it with them,” the Princess of Wales revealed, offering a rare insight into how her 2024 cancer treatment impacted Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, and Michael and Carole Middleton, too.

Catherine then turned to say hello to Claire’s young baby, adding, “Isn’t mummy brave?”

While there, the Princess of Wales also spent time with other patients at the facility, leading an art session and touring the center’s wellbeing garden, which provides a space for reflection and relaxation, per ABC News. This visit follows a joint engagement she held earlier this week with King Charles in honor of Cancer Research UK.

We may never know the extent of what Catherine went through in terms of her illness, but engagements like this offer a tiny glimpse into the far-ranging impact of what she endured.

Double names have long been popular in the South, often as a way to honor family members while making the name a bit more unique (and, potentially, less confusing, so people know which Barbara or Anne you’re referring to). The practice actually dates back to 17^th-century England, though, when King Charles I took the throne. Double names were a big Catholic tradition and, being Catholic, he influenced the country and beyond at the time. (Many people wanted to name their children after a saint, and double names provided a more expanded list of first names for an ever-expanding population, Psychology Today asserts.)

For any potential parents-to-be, there is one facet of double-naming worth noting: Its impact on identity—and paperwork. Psychology Today’s research found many people with double names, such as Mary Anne or Ann-Louise, often abbreviated their names to just one word as they got older, which can cause issues with TSA—“your passport says ‘Betty Lou’ but your boarding pass says ‘Betty’”—or even squabbles within families, as people debate why one portion of the name was chosen over the other (“Are you favoring one side of the family?”).

Speaking from experience, TSA and government paperwork issues will arise no matter what you name your kids, and people will have opinions on said names no matter what you do,  so go with what feels right to you. (So if you’re looking for ideas, we’ve got a few here.)

And if double names aren’t your thing, you could always explore another popular search for a unique name: “girl names that mean chaos” and “boy names that mean darkness” are the top trending “names that mean…” queries, according to Google. The opening strains of the new track feature the...harmonica. Throughout the song, it comes and goes in subtle bursts and bars. The rest of the track has a reliable bass and guitar, but the harmonica gives it just a hint of twang. And this twang is all I needed to be zoomed and zipped right back to Taylor Swift, the singer's eponymous debut from 2006.

This year, there's been plenty of speculation over what her outfits have been saying on red carpets and nights out—my own writers' group chat (and de facto Swift theory thread) is convinced we're getting a double drop of Reputation and Taylor Swift. (And the viral TikTok below only has us doubling down.) And now, with "I Knew It, I Knew You" presenting with a clearly country through-line, I think she's prepping us to go back to country Taylor.

Easter eggs aside, I found "I Knew It, I Knew You" to be the best thing Swift has penned in a while. I've been following her since her breakout days but fell off the wagon after The Tortured Poets Department (though I was already hanging on by a thread after Midnights). The Life of a Showgirl was disappointing, and left me hoping that Swift would unearth the songwriting chops that first catapulted her to fame. "I Knew It, I Knew You" feels like a major step in that direction.

The mega Reddit thread dedicated to the song has mixed reviews, but the general consensus is that it's not Oscar material. However, that's not really the point. The song shows that she remains a skilled songwriter and that her real talent now, after spending a decade inspired by her own life, is to tell the stories of others, the way she made that foray into folklore and evermore. The lyrics, too—where do I start! That has been a major point of contention for me over Swift's last two albums, that the writing felt a bit lackluster. But now, she's giving us gems like "Parachutes for the free fall of being younger" and "I knеw you, all your blues like a mood ring changing colors."

Whatever Swift's next album is, it will be her 13th—an auspicious number in Swiftie lore. I'm hopeful it's going to be a hit—and that Taylor Swift (Taylor's Version) is just around the corner.

This Summer Is All About Finding Your Sense of Self

Whether you’re doing some serious soul searching or feel fairly confident in who you are, Onefater tells me that this summer, everyone is going to be renegotiating their identity. 3 Big Questions to Ask Yourself This Summer

Whenever something monumental takes place in my life, I find myself doing a lot of reflecting. Onefater tells me that there are three questions to ask yourself as you process everything—because a simple “Who am I?” is too vague to cover the magnitude of transformation.

1. What am I truly ready to claim and hold space for that I was pulling back from (whether consciously or not) because of my own fears or scarcity?
2. Do I trust that I am deserving of an extraordinary life? Am I no longer willing to settle for things that feel like 98 or even 99 percent of a fit if it means trusting I can hold more than that?
3. Who am I existing for? Do I feel like I’m living for the perception or projection of those around me? A future version of myself? A past version of me that I’ve outgrown?

The Big Misconception We’ll All Confront

When Onefater told me this, I winced a little bit, because it’s so true: “That what you want, your greatest hopes and dreams, exist on the other side of surrender.” That things will feel better or start to turn around if you just give in. But she challenges this idea with the notion that maybe you don’t have to surrender; you don’t have to give in. You can have the hard conversation. You can walk away if where you are currently—whether in work or relationships—hasn’t been meeting your needs.

Doing that requires stepping into the unknown, and it can be scary. But, Onefater says, “Trust that if you hold true to yourself, anchor in the version of you that you’ve become, and decide not to settle for anything less than extraordinary, then maybe, just maybe you will be met with something far greater than you could possibly anticipate.”

It may seem flimsy to notice the potential sweetness of the week in the chaos of all that is happening, but it is important that we try. If we find goodness in our lives, we must allow ourselves to be open to it.

In the eighth and ninth slides, we get a view of Gomez's total hair transformation (and it seems like she really buried the lead here). The actress and singer now appears to be sporting wavy red hair—and I'm kinda obsessed with the look.

Could the new look simply be a wig? Or might it just be a temporary color and style change? Absolutely. But either way, it's fun to see Gomez embracing her red era.

This isn't the first time the star has stunned fans with a new 'do. Last year, she brought back an iconic haircut: a grown-up version of her "Naturally" lob circa 2009.

Her IG selfie showed off her choppy lob and shaggy bangs. The post's caption read, "I would, but I'd regret it, then get it redone so I simply wont #bangs."

As I mentioned, Gomez's hit show, Only Murders in the Building, is currently filming season six in London. Just two weeks ago, the show's official Instagram page shared a photo of the cast, including Martin Short, Steve Martin, Da’Vine Joy Randolph and Gomez. The caption read, "Season 6, Day 1," and included a British flag emoji as a nod to the newest show setting.

Details are scarce on the upcoming season, but the new location is a large departure for the show, which is normally set in New York City (though it did take an L.A. detour in season four). Can we assume that Gomez's new red look is one that her character Mabel dons in season six? Likely so, as she's in the middle of filming.

As for if her costars Short and Martin will also be getting makeovers, that remains to be seen.

Will Taylor Swift Perform at Her Own Wedding? An Investigation

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's only daughter turns five today. And to honor the occasion, Markle shared two special photos of the princess—one where she is being held by her father and the other where she stands alone in a garden.

Markle captioned the post, "Our dream girl. Happy 5th birthday, Lili." She added a white heart emoji for good measure.

The first picture is a sweet one, as the young princess faces away from the camera (something that followers have become accustomed to by now when it comes to pics of Lili and her brother Archie). Markle and the prince are all smiles in the adorable family moment.

But the second picture is perhaps the more striking of the two. We get a good look at Lilibet (who has grown quite a bit) and her long red hair as she reaches out and touches a flower. In both photos, she appears to be barefoot, an endearing touch to be sure.

Last year, for Lilibet's fourth birthday, Markle posted two black-and-white photos to Instagram. The first pic features mother and daughter on a boat, and the second appears to have been taken moments after Lilibet's birth.

The caption read, ""Happy birthday to our beautiful girl! Four years ago today she came into our lives - and each day is brighter and better because of it. Thanks to all of those sending love and celebrating her special day!"

Meghan Markle Isn’t Afraid of the ‘F’ Word; Why Are You?

This year’s nominees include a huge list of buzzy shows and performances, from Marla Mindelle playing Céline Dion in the hilarious parody musical Titaníque to Rose Byrne and Kelli O’Hara serving laughs in the Noël Coward play Fallen Angels. While the competition will undoubtedly be stiff, there were a number of names who truly deserve to take home that statue.

Though they might not all deliver an acceptance speech, here are four actors and four shows who should win a Tony Award.

Best Lead Actress in a Musical

• Nominees: Sara Chase, Schmigadoon!; Stephanie Hsu, Richard O'Brien's The Rocky Horror Show; Caissie Levy, Ragtime; Marla Mindelle, Titaníque; Christiani Pitts, Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York)
• Who Should Win: Marla Mindelle, Titaníque

This is a seriously competitive category and, TBH, Levy is likely to win the statuette in the end. But, there were a few stellar performances here. Hsu is surprisingly fabulous and nuanced as Janet in Rocky Horror. Pitts helps carry the charming Two Strangers on her talented shoulders. And yet, my favorite of the bunch has to be Mindelle, who has been playing the role of Céline Dion Off-Broadway for years, now finally bringing the part to the Great White Way. Mindelle is so freaking funny in this part that is flashy, imaginative and “kooky crazy.” She’s so good, in fact, that I’ve gone to see her in Titaníque three times over the years, and I never get sick of her genius accent, her powerhouse vocals and her brilliant storytelling.

Best Lead Actor in a Musical

• Nominees: Nicholas Christopher, Chess; Luke Evans, Richard O'Brien's The Rocky Horror Show; Joshua Henry, Ragtime; Sam Tutty, Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York); Brandon Uranowitz, Ragtime
• Who Should Win: Joshua Henry, Ragtime

Speaking of powerhouse performers, Henry is likely to run away with this one…and he should. I’ve been following his career for years (he was fabulous in Violet, Carousel and The Scottsboro Boys), and I’m so glad he finally gets the chance to tackle Coalhouse in Ragtime. Though Evans is an incredible Frank-N-Furter and everyone who sees Chess has been buzzing about Christopher, this award belongs in Henry’s hands. Fingers crossed he gets to sing “Wheels of a Dream” at the Tonys so the world can see just why he deserves the win.

Best Lead Actress in a Play

• Nominees: Rose Byrne, Fallen Angels; Carrie Coon, Bug; Susannah Flood, Liberation; Lesley Manville, Oedipus; Kelli O'Hara, Fallen Angels
• Who Should Win: Rose Byrne, Fallen Angels

What. A. Category. It’s entirely possible that co-stars Byrne and O’Hara cancel each other out here, handing the win to one of the other (also) deserving women. But, fresh off her Oscar nomination, Byrne is the one I think should win Best Lead Actress in a Play. In my coworker’s review of the play, she writes, “Together, Byrne and O’Hara don’t miss a beat as they trade back-handed compliments, anxieties and reflections on past versions of themselves. (Also, hilarity as they subtly peer pressure each other to drink.)” However, she—like me—sees Byrne as the standout in the end. “Byrne’s appearance in particular by the end of the show is so jarring and hilarious, I laughed out loud.”

Best Lead Actor in a Play

• Nominees: Will Harrison, Punch; Nathan Lane, Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman; John Lithgow, Giant; Daniel Radcliffe, Every Brilliant Thing; Mark Strong, Oedipus
• Who Should Win: Daniel Radcliffe, Every Brilliant Thing

Lane and Lithgow are likely the frontrunners in this stacked category, but Radcliffe’s performance is the one that leaves audiences talking all the way home. The former Harry Potter actor commands the theater in the 85-minute one-person show Every Brilliant Thing, which has quickly become the hottest ticket in town. (Mariska Hargitay has since taken over for Radcliffe, with Tracee Ellis Ross lined up to play the role after her.) In my colleague’s review of the show, she writes, “While the earnestness could come off as saccharine, in Radcliffe’s funny and capable hands, it’s both knowing and profound; his eyes are spritely, and his body seems propelled by an invisible motor.”

Best Play

• Nominees: The Balusters; Giant; Liberation; Little Bear Ridge Road
• Who Should Win: Liberation

Though each of these plays is pretty great, Liberation stands out from the pack. The well-written and wonderfully performed story follows six women in the ‘70s who are determined to shake up their lives and change the world by fighting for civil rights. The play is extremely relevant in today’s social climate, as women continue to fight for bodily autonomy and true equal rights. Perhaps my coworker puts it best in her Liberation review: “I was blown away.”

Best Musical

• Nominees: The Lost Boys; Schmigadoon!; Titaníque; Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York)
• Who Should Win: The Lost Boys

Okay, I love the new musicals in this category, but I am floored by only one: The Lost Boys. Shoshana Bean shines, delivering a layered performance, plenty of funny one-liners and vocals that bring the house down (not a huge surprise from a talent such as Bean). LJ Benet sings and acts his face off as her "lost" son. And Ali Louis Bourzgui is terrifyingly good as a local boy with a dark secret. And the set of this show? Unreal. The scenic design by Dane Laffrey is out of this world. Forget the fact that many of the characters fly (this isn't a spoiler—you get your first glimpse of this in the very opening moments). But the design allows the front of the proscenium to sink and disappear, full sets to descend from the heavens and what you think are solid walls to become moving pieces for the actors to play on. Honestly, this show is so, so good.

Best Revival of a Play

• Nominees: Becky Shaw; Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman; Every Brilliant Thing; Fallen Angels; Oedipus
• Who Should Win: Every Brilliant Thing

Speaking of good shows, Every Brilliant Thing really should win the Tony for Best Revival of a Play. It’s telling that celebs are lining up to replace Radcliffe in the lead role (a la Oh, Mary! from last season). The creativity, heart and joy of this show make it a true standout. By creating scenes with members of the audience, it becomes a genuinely immersive experience, drawing you in to the story with a level of personal investment that is unrivaled when compared with the other shows this year. The fact that a famous movie star is able to deliver such a moving and memorable performance (chock full of improvisation) is just icing on the cake.

Best Revival of a Musical

• Nominees: Cats: The Jellicle Ball; Ragtime; Richard O'Brien's The Rocky Horror Show
• Who Should Win: Cats: The Jellicle Ball

Ragtime will win; Cats should win. This reimagined production of Cats is a joyous, dance-filled party—one that tells the same old Cats story in a mind-blowingly refreshing manner. Embracing the world of ballroom, complete with fan snapping (and finger snapping), the show is a spectacle of the best kind. And while I fully get the relevance and importance of the beautiful Ragtime, the reinvention that Cats has undergone is beyond impressive. It’s an entirely new show and I am here for it (*snaps fan*).

I Went to the 2026 AMAs—This Was the Night’s Best Performance

Somewhere along the way, Knicks games became the hottest ticket in fashion. On any given night, you might spot a supermodel, an Oscar winner, a beauty mogul and a TikTok heartthrob all fighting for camera time between possessions. And unlike the Met Gala, where celebrities spend months planning their looks, courtside style requires a certain level of spontaneity. 

Ahead, our completely unofficial ranking of the celebrities who understood the assignment this season—and one particularly famous Knicks superfan who may want to spend a little less time watching game film and a little more time looking in the mirror.

While many celebrities lean heavily into team merch, Swift took a more polished approach, pairing a chain-knit top from Stella McCartney’s coveted H&M collaboration with a denim jacket, high-waisted wide-leg jeans and heeled sandals. She finished the look with Jonathan Anderson’s Dior Cigale bag, proving once again that no one does elevated casual quite like Tay.

Hailey Bieber

No one understands courtside dressing quite like Hailey Bieber. While everyone else is trying to figure out whether to wear team merch or luxury fashion, she consistently chooses both. Case in point: when the New York Knicks faced off against the Los Angeles Lakers at Madison Square Garden Jan 31, Bieber arrived in an oversized black leather bomber jacket covered in Knicks patches, paired with black trousers, a mini leather handbag and elongated tortoiseshell sunglasses. The look struck the perfect balance between superfan and supermodel.

Anne Hathaway

Anne Hathaway always just gets it. Unlike celebrities who arrive looking like they’re headed to a fashion week after-party, Hathaway actually dresses like someone excited to be at a basketball game. In preparation for Game 1 of the finals, her Knicks fandom felt genuine, which somehow makes the outfits even better.

Kylie Jenner

A Knicks courtside regular, Kylie mastered the art of high-low dressing in her many courtside appearances. A vintage Knicks jacket paired with luxury accessories doesn't always work on the court, and yet Jenner nails it. Our favorite look? Her totally basketball-appropriate bedazzled white jeans from the Isabel Marant Spring 2013 collection for game 5 of the playoffs.

Least Best Dressed: Timothée Chalamet

Look, I appreciate commitment to the bit. No one loves the Knicks more than Timmy. Not the players. Not the coaching staff. Possibly not even Spike Lee…possibly. But somewhere between the oversized Knicks jackets, the random layers and the look of a man who got dressed in the dark because tipoff was in 20 minutes, things have gone sideways. The necklace helps, but the orange and blue ensemble he wore for Game 7 on May 31 is a bridge too far. Together, they created the aesthetic of a hypebeast who accidentally wandered into a jail cell. The good news? At least the Knicks are winning!

When it comes to sun exposure, I’ve always been something of a vampire. In my 20s, I developed the (albeit not-so-great) habit of sleeping all day and staying out all night. I hate the beach. To quote Shirley Manson, I’m only happy when it rains. I’d like to think that those tendencies helped offset the tanning bed damage of my teens (hey, it was the era of Jersey Shore, OK?). But after relocating from New York to Los Angeles—and adopting mostly normal-person hours—those UV rays are unavoidable. So what better time to test out one of the year’s buzziest facial sunscreens?

Although it launched in 2021, the Colorescience Sunforgettable Total Protection Face Shield Flex ($58; $41) has dominated my social feeds the past few months. Beauty lovers rave about its ability to even out skin tone while delivering broad-spectrum SPF 50 protection. The formula is tinted (more on that in a sec), which initially gave me pause. I never wear foundation, and most tinted sunscreens leave my skin feeling heavy and looking cakey. But given all the hype, I wondered if this formula could finally change my mind. 

To find out, I wore it daily for two weeks under the L.A. sun. Here’s my review, complete with photos, of the viral sunscreen that turned out to be unlike any formula I’ve tried before. 

What Makes the Colorescience Face Shield Flex Special?

Colorescience has long led the suncare category, and the Sunforgettable Total Protection Face Shield Flex showcases why. The formula features the brand’s proprietary EnviroScreen technology, a cutting-edge mineral barrier powered by zinc oxide and titanium dioxide that protects against not only UVA and UVB rays, but also blue light, infrared radiation, pollution and free radicals.

Its tinting mechanism is also as innovative as it gets. Available in six shades, the sunscreen uses iron oxide pigments designed to adapt to your skin tone. Rather than starting out with a tint, the creamy formula actually goes on white and blooms to release color as you rub it in. Yes, it’s science—but watching the color transform feels like magic. 

My Experience Using the Colorescience Face Shield Flex Sunscreen

As I mentioned, I’m averse to any formulas that feel heavy on my skin. Since so many fans claim the Colorescience Face Shield Flex can replace their foundation in the summer months, I worried it would feel more like makeup than skincare—and leave me without the dewy, natural finish I prefer. 

My first application didn’t exactly ease those concerns. The formula felt thick, and although I was awe-struck by the real-time transformation from a bright white to a golden beige as I rubbed it in, I thought it looked a bit powdery–especially in the corners of my nose and on my forehead, where my skin tends to get dry. On the plus side, it immediately evened out and mattified my complexion, hiding my dark circles and the redness that developed since my move (see: stress, lack of sleep, dry air and hard water). In shade Light, it also matched my skin tone while adding a touch of warmth.

A few minutes later, though, everything changed. The formula absorbed completely, and while it maintained a soft, slightly powdery finish, it started to look like my skin—only better. I stepped outside and took some selfies in the sunlight. Whoa! My face appeared even-toned, my pores were blurred and light reflected off my cheekbones for a radiant sheen. There was zero white cast, and everything looked seamlessly blended. Maybe there was something to this tinted sunscreen thing after all.

Admittedly, I let my regular skincare routine lapse since landing in L.A., so the next day I applied the sunscreen after a full reset: exfoliator, toner pads, vitamin C serum, moisturizer. This time, the cream formula glided on more smoothly and absorbed much faster. The result? My face looked glowy and fresh, not cakey. Better yet, it continued to look good throughout the day.

Since then, I’ve worn the Colorescience Face Shield Flex for at least a dozen long walks in peak sunshine, accompanied only by a pair of sunglasses. I’ve tried swiping on some powder blush and cream highlighter over top—both of which went on smoothly with no pilling. I even wore it to a HIIT workout class to see how the formula would fare against heavy sweat and an extra-hot environment. I’m happy to report that my skin looked just as good afterward, with no sweaty streaks detected.

Two weeks later, my formerly vampiric skin shows no redness, no burning, no signs that the California sun—or anything else for that matter—had infiltrated my sunscreen. In fact, my complexion has finally started to calm down after the chaos of a cross-country move. Since the formula touts antioxidant ingredients that combat environmental stressors beyond just UV rays, I don’t doubt that it’s contributed to the overall improvement of my skin.

Bottom Line: Is the Colorescience Face Shield Flex Worth It?

Having now incorporated the Colorescience Face Shield Flex into my daily routine, I definitely agree with the hype surrounding it. It single-handedly changed my mind about tinted sunscreen—even if it’s the only one I’d wear. Between its remarkable tone-adapting pigment (which is buildable if you are looking for more foundation-like coverage), complexion-perfecting finish and, most importantly, robust full-spectrum protection against the sun and other damage, it’s a product that punches above its weight and actually succeeds. 

The one downside to such an innovative, effective and routine-transforming suncare? It doesn’t come cheap. Typically priced at $58 for a considerably small 1.8-fluid-ounce bottle (though you can currently find it for 30 percent off at DermStreet), it’s a splurge, especially as a repeat buy. The good news: A little goes a long way. Bottom line? It’s worth a try if you’re in the market for a lightweight foundation alternative, a new daily SPF or, like me, a tinted sunscreen you actually won’t hate. If this lifelong tinted-sunscreen skeptic became a convert, there’s a good chance you might, too.
