How to Make the Best Guacamole in the History of Ever

If there’s one thing we know in life, it’s how much we love guacamole. It’s undeniable, no matter how you scoop it: with tortilla chips, on top of tacos, as a burger fixing or straight out of the molcajete. But finding that perfect guacamole recipe should basically be a professional sport. (How much lime is really enough lime? And are you supposed to sprinkle in red onion or red-pepper flakes?) We’re here to set the record straight. Behold the definitive recipe for the best guacamole you’ll ever taste.

2 cups

½ white onion, minced

2 garlic cloves, minced

½ teaspoon kosher salt, plus more to taste

3 California Avocados, peeled and diced

Juice of 2 limes

1 jalapeño, seeded and minced

1 medium tomato, minced

⅓ cup chopped fresh cilantro

Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

1. In a medium bowl, mix the onion with the garlic and ½ teaspoon salt to combine. Use a fork to mash the mixture slightly to release the flavors and soften the texture.

2. Add the avocados and lime juice, and mash the mixture until the ingredients are combined but still coarse. There should still be big chunks of avocado in it.

3. Stir in the jalapeño, tomato and cilantro, and mix to combine. Season the guacamole with salt and pepper to taste. Serve immediately.
