The Creator Behind One of the Most Imaginative Spaces in the Country

Maryellis Bunn is in the business of imagination, and Museum of Ice Cream is her golden ticket. The creator of the now famous museum started it as a passion project that was supposed to last only 45 days in its first New York City location. Due to instant fame, it has since moved to Los Angeles, Miami and just announced a permanent location in San Francisco—each new spot transforming to fit the feel of its respective host city.

Bunn also recently debuted her first *real* ice cream line, a collaboration with Sephora and MOIC’s own ecomm shop dubbed The Pint Shop. We can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.

When did you realize what you wanted to do in your life?

“When I first moved to NYC, I struggled to find communities that I could connect with. I felt there were no true experiences left in the city where people could meet and interact face-to-face and in a meaningful way. It was a lack of connection that created the catalyst to create something completely new and different—the Museum of Ice Cream.”

What is your biggest accomplishment to date?

“I am just getting started! I am most proud of the amazing team we have at MOIC, over 500 incredible members of #teammoic who work or have worked with us over the past two years.”

What’s something you’d like people to know about you or your job that they probably don’t?

“Every single day is the biggest day of the biggest job I’ve ever had. No day is the same, and while that might be terrifying for some, I find it to be thrilling. At MOIC, our mantra is ‘anything is possible,’ and that guides me through every hour of my life.”

What does being a woman mean to you today?

“Being fearless without boundaries! That there is no barrier I can’t cross. We, as women, are capable of anything and everything we put our minds to. Nothing can stand in our way if we believe in our capabilities and the fact that we can and will change the world.”

In today’s Instagram world, how do you stay original?

“You have to be true to yourself and your brand, and aim to reflect that in social media. MOIC has been able to grow and flourish in today’s Instagram world because we never shy away from what makes us unique and groundbreaking. Inauthenticity is not an option.”

Snack food you can’t live without?

“Museum of Ice Cream’s Vanillionaire—it is addicting!”

Habit that has changed your life?

“Trusting the kindness of strangers and believing that there is good in the world. You can really learn so much about the world, and even yourself, when you trust that people are inherently good.”
