There’s been a lot of confusion about whether Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, will inherit a royal title when Prince Charles becomes the King of England. Well, we finally have answers.
According to The Express, Archie will reportedly become a prince when his grandfather takes over the British throne, since the young royal will be bumped up to number six in the line of succession. (It’s tradition for “prince” titles to only be applied to family members in the top six spots.) However, that doesn’t mean he’ll automatically go by “Prince Archie.”
The outlet notes that the decision will be in Archie’s hands when he turns 18. At that time, he’ll choose to either go by Prince Archie or his formal title, His Royal Highness (or neither). We don’t expect him to opt for HRH, since his parents stepped down as senior members of the royal family and, therefore, surrendered their formal titles.
Still, Archie has several years before he’ll be faced with this decision. And based on how 2020 is going, anything is possible.
