Great News(ies): Watching a Musical Could Be as Good for You as a 30-Minute Workout
Joan Marcus/Hamilton

Dear Evan Hansen reader,

Does the thought of exercising make you Les Miserables? Is your favorite sport The Pajama Game? Would you rather do just about anything than Stomp around a smelly gym all day?

Well Mamma Mia, have we got some Wicked good news for you. A recent study by University College London and Encore Tickets found that, when the score intensifies during a musical, your heart rate can rise to between 50 and 70 percent of its theoretical maximum (levels it calls "optimal" for stimulating cardio fitness and boosting stamina). So basically, watching a musical might provide the same health benefits as a 30-minute workout, meaning you avid theatergoers are probably just a few shows away from fitting into your Kinky Boots.

How to succeed in fitness without really trying? Go see a musical.

Talk about a Dreamgirls come true.
