Feel Good TV Happens Sunday When We All Watch the Beverly Hills Dog Show

Prepare for a shot of communal happiness on Sunday when all creatures great and small (both two- and four-legged) gather around the television for the Beverly Hills Dog Show Presented by Purina. Celebrities like Maria Menounos and Doug the Pug will be in attendance, as well as the most toothsome canines in America.

The show airs Sunday, May 17 at 8 p.m. ET/PT and 7 p.m. CT/MT on NBC. (A quick note: The show was prerecorded in February, before we were all social distancing.) More than 1,500 dogs in over 200 breeds will compete, including a muscular, newly American Kennel Club-approved breed named the Dogo Argentino. But we’re predicting the breakout star of the show will be another new breed, the Barbet, which looks like the world’s floppiest-haired goldendoodle. (Keep an eye out for him in the working group competition.)

Viewers will also enjoy seasoned dog show analyst, David Frei, and Seinfeld's beloved J. Peterman, the honey-voiced actor John O’Hurley, providing expert commentary and animal-lover quips. Interspersed with the fierce competition, NBC Sports’s Mary Carillo and Maria Menounos will take the TV audience behind the scenes as the pups get washed, fluffed and primped to rival the glam of a Hollywood starlet.

While there will be appearances from boldface names like actress Olivia Culpo and five-time Olympic medalist, gymnast Nastia Liukin, it's really the dogs we're all cuddling on the couch to enjoy. Glossy coats, wet noses and wagging tails are the happy and healthy sight we're all so ready to see.
