No Kids Allowed: Virgin Voyage's Very First Cruise Ship Is for Adults Only

If you've ever found yourself thinking, "I don't care what you say, Disney, cruise ships are no place for children!" then you might just be in luck. Virgin Voyages is launching its very first cruise adventure, and the entire ship will be adults only.

All guests on the Scarlet Lady must be 18 or older, which in and of itself is appealing to many vacationers. However, there are many more reasons Vrigin’s first nautical outing sounds like a fascinating enterprise. To borrow a phrase from Saturday Night Live’s favorite club promoter Stefon, this ship has everything.

In many ways the amenities on this ship sound like they were created by a shoulder-sitting angel and devil duo. On the one hand, travelers can choose from any number of relaxing treatments at the Redemption Spa, including a hydrotherapy pool, quartz beds and a mud room. They can grab a healthy meal at one of the vegan or vegetarian eateries on board or partake in cycling or yoga classes.

However, travelers can also enjoy a variety of complimentary shots at any one of the multiple bars, go clubbing or even get a tattoo at the ship's very own tattoo parlor. It's all about balance, you know?

Tom McAlpin, CEO of Virgin Voyages, describes the rooms as having a “Rebellious Luxe”vibe, designed to make guests feel like rock stars. “With these glamorous suites, Virgin Voyages is bringing rock ’n’ roll to the high seas and spoiling our Sailors like the rock stars they are.”

So are you the type of rock star that’s aways wanted to give kickboxing a try? Head over to the boxing ring and full gymnastics center.

Not quite sure what type of food you're in the mood for? Pop into the test kitchen, where daring guests choose from a list of ingredients and the chef surprises them with dishes.

Sad to be missing the latest season of RuPaul’s Drag Race while you’re away? Catch a live drag show during brunch at Razzle Dazzle restaurant. Oh, and while you’re walking through its jarring red and white entrance, you can brush up on some historical trivia: Those candy-cane-esque stripes were inspired by the camouflage pattern painted on warships from WWI and WWII. Because why not?

Of course, there are the expected amenities as well—sunny decks with plenty of lounge chairs, a mani-pedi spa and blow-dry bar, 20-plus dining options, multiple pools, food and drink available 24-7 and a confusing (but intriguing) series of evening spa parties described as “mermaid hideaways.”

The inaugural voyage of the Scarlet Lady departs from Miami in 2020 and will sail to the Caribbean, although there are already plans for future excursions to Cuba.

So, will you follow the shoulder angel and disembark with a slew of cherished memories of drag brunches and delicious taco dinners, or let the shoulder devil take over and end up with a drunken tattoo you immediately regret? There’s only one way to find out…
