‘Veep’: The Holy Gary of TV Shows Is Back!
Justin M. Lubin/HBO

Veep is coming back this Sunday, April 16, and we’re as jazzed as Gary when Selina mildly commends his lipstick selection. We have a feeling things are about to get even more rotten in the state of Denmark District of Columbia following Selina’s cataclysmic presidential loss in season five. Here’s hoping poor Gary can deal.

And now, a little refresher to whet your Veep palate...

Selina Meyer (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) and her eccentric West Wing staff focused their eyes on one single prize for the majority of season five: a Selina Meyer presidential victory (no matter the amount of sacrifice or scrambling involved). Selina, albeit begrudgingly, helped Jonah Ryan (Timothy Simons) get elected to congress so she could confidently secure his presidential vote. She went so far as to make the mother of all negotiations with China. Yes, Selina Meyer was personally responsible for the fictional freeing of Tibet. And before Gary (Tony Hale) could get in his high-fives all around, the entire Meyer for President team watched as the credit for freeing Tibet slipped from their sweaty palms into opposition Laura Montez’s (Andrea Savage) perfectly bilingual lap.

A few remaining season five gems: Gary was accidentally named one of the hottest White House staffers in an annual D.C. rankings list, Amy (Anna Chlumsky) and Dan (Reid Scott) continued their awkward on-again-off-again tryst and Jonah dealt with the devastating blow of being diagnosed with testicular cancer. Things fared slightly better for Selina’s daughter, Catherine (Sarah Jude Sutherland). She inherited all of her late grandmother’s money, fell in love with Selina’s body double Marjorie (Clea DuVall) and founded an animal sanctuary. So, basically, season five was business as usual for Selina and co.

Veep season six airs this Sunday, April 16, at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT on HBO.

Veep, OUT.
