‘OITNB’ Star Uzo Aduba Secretly Ties the Knot with Filmmaker Robert Sweeting

Major congrats are in order for Uzo Aduba, who is now officially off the market.

The Orange Is the New Black star surprised fans with the news of her secret wedding by sharing a romantic photo and tribute to her husband, Robert Sweeting, on Instagram. Quoting the classic '80s rom-com, When Harry Met Sally, she said, "When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible."

The caption continued, "For some of us, it can feel like we spend our whole lives waiting for our special someone. My heart, my love—I’m so happy my life started last year with you. You’re the best thing that ever happened to me."

In the pic, Aduba and Sweeting are seen embracing in their wedding attire. Meanwhile, in the comments, fellow celebs and fans couldn't contain their excitement. Viola Davis wrote, "Aaaaaaaaahhhhh!!!!!!!! AWESOME!!!!! Mazaltov! Congratulations!!! God's blessing on your life!! Sending an abundance of love." Kerry Washington also responded with several heart emojis, while Kelly Ripa said, "Congratulations! This is great news!"

While Aduba only shared this news recently, a source confirmed to People that she and Sweeting said their 'I do's' in a private New York ceremony back in 2020, which means they kept their nuptials under wraps for quite some time. The insider said, "They are celebrating their one-year anniversary this year."

The announcement comes shortly after Aduba was announced as an Emmy nominee for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for HBO's In Treatment. This could very well make her a four-time Emmy winner, as she already received two Emmys for her role in Orange Is the New Black and one for Mrs. America.

After snagging her third Emmy, she dedicated her victory to Shirley Chisholm, the real-life politician she portrayed on Mrs. America. She said, "Thank you to Shirley Chisholm for her championship work for all people who have been forgotten and marginalized, who she represented."

Fingers crossed we'll get to see her make another acceptance speech at this year's ceremony.
