This ‘90s Reboot Is the New #1 TV Show on Netflix

True crime fans, Netflix has a treat for you. The streaming giant just released volume two of the hit revival docuseries Unsolved Mysteries (you know, the one from the ‘80s and ’90s). The new season has only been available for a few days, and it’s already claimed the number one spot on Netflix’s list of top TV shows.

So, what is Unsolved Mysteries about? And is it similar to the original franchise? We’re breaking down all of the deets.

1. What is Unsolved Mysteries about?

Netflix’s revival of the hit documentary series explores cold cases, paranormal phenomena and other (you guessed it) unsolved mysteries.

The official synopsis reads, “Fusing signature elements from the original series with contemporary immersive, character-driven storytelling, the new episodes are rooted in the experiences of ordinary people who have lived the unthinkable—from the trauma of a loved one’s unexplained disappearance or horrific death, to the shock of a bizarre paranormal encounter. Alongside detectives and journalists, family members offer clues, present theories, and identify suspects, hoping one viewer holds the key to solving the mystery.”

2. Is there a trailer?

There sure is (see above). Netflix released a brand-new trailer, which teases a handful of new mysteries and unexplained events from not only the United States but around the world.

3. When does Unsolved Mysteries premiere?

Volume one, which consisted of six episodes, hit Netflix back in July 2020. Season two premiered on October 19, just days before it topped the streaming service’s list of most-watched TV shows.

4. Is it similar to the original franchise?

Definitely. In fact, the reboot is from the creators of the original series, Cosgrove/Meurer Productions, as well as 21 Laps Entertainment—AKA the producers of Stranger Things. Like the 1987 version (which ran for a successful 14 seasons), the revival will use reenactments and first-person interviews to tell the stories.
