Ohh, Uber Pool. We love your prices, but you’re so inconsistent. Sometimes it takes 30 minutes to go a few blocks for a weird roundaboutpickup of another rider, and other times we cruise straight to our destination without ever having to share the car (yasssss: two bucks wellspent). Welcome to Uber roulette, guys.
Apparently the ride-sharing app has heard our pleas because they just launched a new feature. Enter: Uber Express Pool. For D.C., L.A., Miami, Philadelphia, San Diego and Denver (with more cities coming in the next few weeks), riders now have the cheaper option to Express Pool in addition to a regular Uber Pool, with just a couple of strings attached.
Instead of going out of the way to pick up other riders, the app will alert an Express Pool rider of a few-minute wait time and/or recommend a short walk to the perfect pickup location to optimize the carpooling ride.
The goal is to make the overall ride faster and more direct for all users. For now, Uber will continue to offer regular Uber Pool for those not wanting to walk to the pickup point (because heels).
Now, if only we could get a “don’t feel like talking” button. Then we’d be in business.
