Breaking news for anyone who’s Twitter-obsessed: The social media giant—whose 140-character limit has caused us to edit (and edit) our most insightful and hilarious thoughts—just announced it’s testing an update that doubles the character count.
Yep, that means you’ll have a whopping 280 characters to express yourself, share memes and retweet (now extra-long) rants from your fave celebs.
A statement on the company blog explains, “Our research shows us that the character limit is a major cause of frustration for people Tweeting in English. When people don’t have to cram their thoughts into 140 characters and actually have some to spare, we see more people Tweeting—which is awesome!”
Still, the internet is speaking out with one major concern: trolls. (The higher the character count, the more room to harass and bully strangers, no?)
Whether you see the change as a pro or con, keep in mind that it’s still in the beta stages, so you might still be restricted to 140 characters for now. All the more time to work on your verbosity.
