Tracee Ellis Ross Shares Sneak Peek of Her Latest Project (and Oprah Is Involved)

Tracee Ellis Ross has a new project in the works: a documentary series. And she’s not the only major name who’s tied to the program.

On Thursday, the 48-year-old actress teased her new doc, The Hair Tales, in a video on her personal Instagram account. “So so excited to finally announce The Hair Tales, a docuseries that will act as a love letter to Black women celebrating our joyful brilliance through the portal of our hair!” she captioned the post. “An intimate journey of identity, culture, legacy, beauty, strength and love! This series is personal and universal, American and global. Ooohhh I’m so excited!”

Ross isn’t the only one signed on as a producer. Oprah Winfrey, Tara Duncan, Raeshem Nijhon and Carri Twigg will also produce.

The show’s official synopsis reads: “The Hair Tales will lead the audience through a revelatory journey of connecting the personal tales of phenomenal Black women to broader societal and historic themes. The stories shared in the series offer an honest and layered look into the complex culture of Black hair and ultimately Black women’s identity, creativity and contributions to society.”

“This series is about identity, culture and legacy, beauty, strength and joy,” Ross said in a statement per Variety. “Hair is a portal into the souls of Black women, it drives straight to the center of who we are. Our goal is to share this vibrant community, where we hold a sacred space for each other. Like many women, I can trace my own journey to self-acceptance through my hair. This series is personal and universal, American and global. It is a love letter to Black women.”

The new series will air on Hulu as well as Winfrey’s network cable channel. No word on when we can expect it to hit our small screens, but we’ll be patiently waiting for more details.
