We were thrilled to hear about Maverick’s plans for a dreamy return to the silver screen, but apparently Tom Cruise and Top Gun 2 do not feel the need for speed this time around.
Paramount has announced that the long-anticipated sequel to the ’80s classic Top Gun will not arrive in theaters until July 12, 2019—33 years after the release of the original film.
Joseph Kosinski, who worked with Cruise on Oblivion, is reportedly attached to direct the currently untitled sequel. There’s no word yet on whether Kosinski and Cruise will recreate the famous volleyball scene, but we're keeping our fingers crossed.
Two years is a long time to wait for more Maverick, but that should be just enough time for us to get over Goose’s tragic demise.
