For Tom Hanks, life is like a box of epic roles. His next one is definitely the most kind, gentle and, dare we say, neighborly of them all.
The Oscar winner is officially set to portray cardigan-loving TV personality Fred Rogers in the forthcoming biopic You Are My Friend.
The film, which will begin production in September, tells the story of Rogers’s friendship with award-winning journalist Tom Junod. Their bromance blossomed when the curmudgeonly writer begrudgingly accepted an assignment to write a profile piece on the Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood star. (Spoiler alert: Junod’s life is forever changed by the iconic children’s show host’s tender kindness.)
Marielle Heller (Diary of a Teenage Girl) will direct the script from Michael Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster (Transparent).
This seems like the perfect reason to splurge on all the J.Crew sweaters. Right, neighbor?
