Tom Daley Is in Tears After Winning First Olympic Gold Medal

Major congratulations are in order for British diver Tom Daley, who just won his very first Olympic gold medal.

Over the weekend, the 27-year-old athlete and his teammate, Matty Lee, represented Great Britain in the 10-meter synchronized diving final at the Tokyo Olympics. Together, they beat out the Chinese favorite, Cao Yuan and Chen Aisen, by 1.23 points to secure first place.

Daley could hard contain his excitement during the medal ceremony, holding back tears as he accepted the highly coveted honor. Although he previously won bronze at the London and Rio games, this is his first Olympic gold.

Daley shared a screenshot (see above) of the iconic moment on his Instagram Story. He also posted a slideshow on his timeline, which included a variety of candid photos featuring Daley, Lee and their coach, Jane Figueiredo.

The caption read, “OLYMPIC CHAMPIONS! I still can’t believe we actually did it! After 4 Olympics and 20 years of diving! An Olympic Gold medal! And to do it with @mattydiver was all the more special! I wish my family was there to see it, but knowing my Husband [Dustin Lance Black] and Son got to see us ([TV emoji]) win Olympic Gold is NEXT LEVEL!”

It continued, “Massive thank you to everyone who made this possible! You have all played such a huge role in making this happen!”

Lee shared a similar photo on his personal Instagram account and wrote, “OLYMPIC CHAMPIONS.”

So. Well. Deserved.
