In the new trailer, we get a glimpse of Kevin walking to his car with a face mask on, showing that the Pearsons are taking this virus (and the safety of their loved ones) very seriously. But the pandemic teaser comes as no surprise, since the show's creator, Dan Fogelman, confirmed in August that he and the writers would tackle the coronavirus in season five. He tweeted, "Yes on Covid. We've decided to attack things head on. Very proud of @ThisIsUsWriters."
Even though this major curveball could affect the characters' outcomes, Fogelman assured fans that it wouldn't affect the characters' short-term behavior. He added, "Same planned ending. Same route to get there."
Aside from the pandemic theme, the trailer also gives fans a sneak peek at Randall's milestone birthday celebration (and eagle-eyed fans may have noticed that Kevin is nowhere in sight because of their huge fight). However, towards the end of the trailer, we see Randall and Kevin come face to face and, you guys, the tension is thick enough to slice through. Will they finally make up, or will they continue their heated feud?
Thankfully, we'll be getting some answers on NBC as soon as Tuesday, Oct. 27. Cue the countdown!
