An Unexpected Fan Favorite Returns in Next Week’s Episode of ‘This Is Us’

*Warning: Spoilers ahead*

Last week, we anticipated trouble in paradise for Kevin (Justin Hartley) and Zoe (Melanie Liburd) on This Is Us because of Kevin’s relapse. And while Zoe committed to sticking around in season three, episode 15 last night, it appears something else might jeopardize their romance.

In the preview for next week’s episode, titled “Don’t Take My Sunshine Away,” Zevin (Zoe plus Kevin) disagree on something major: He wants kids and she doesn’t. Additionally, a ghost of long-term relationships past—Sophie (Alexandra Breckenridge)—returns.

In episode 15, Zoe opts to stay with Kevin despite him lying to her about his drinking, but the subject of kids isn’t something she’s willing to compromise on. In the preview for episode 16, she tells him “I don’t want to have kids. But if having kids is something you need, I don’t want to waste your time.” Now that Kevin’s twin, Kate (Chrissy Metz), is a parent, it’s natural that he would start wondering about what his future holds. But does that future hold Zoe?

The return of Sophie at such a pivotal time in Kevin’s life also poses an issue. He has history with Sophie, a long one at that. If Zoe isn’t interested in having children but Sophie is, she and Kevin could certainly fast-track the process—that is if Sophie is willing to help put him back together again.

Aside from the presumably forthcoming drama between Kevin, Sophie and Zoe, it looks like episode 16 will also explore Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca’s (Mandy Moore) childhoods. This seems like the perfect element of their lives to touch on as Kevin thinks about becoming a parent and Kate and Toby (Chris Sullivan) endeavor to keep baby Jack alive.

Tune in next week to watch what happens in This Is Us season three, episode 16, at 9 p.m. PT/ET on NBC. All we can say is, bring on the love triangle.
