And the Winner of ‘The Voice’ Season 20 Is…

the voice season 20 winner

Congratulations are in order for one lucky musician, who received a highly coveted honor during The Voice finale.

Last night, season 20 of the popular singing competition came to an end when—drumroll, please—Cam Anthony was crowned the winner. The 19-year-old contestant beat out three worthy finalists, including Jordan Matthew Young (Team Blake Shelton), Kenzie Wheeler (Team Kelly Clarkson), Rachel Mac (Team Nick Jonas) and Victor Solomon (Team John Legend).

So, who is Cam Anthony? The musician first won over America’s heart when he performed a heartfelt rendition of Sam Smith’s “Lay Me Down” during The Voice Blind Auditions. Although he received a three-chair turn, he opted to join Team Shelton. Anthony later opened up about his turbulent childhood in Philadelphia, which forced him to turn to music as an escape.

At age 11, he posted a Bruno Mars cover video on YouTube that not only went viral, but it also jumpstarted his career. (We’re talking an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and an invitation to perform at the White House.) Within a year, Anthony had signed with Dr. Dre, who groomed him as a recording artist and performer.

The “W” marks a record-breaking eighth win for Shelton, who performed a duet with Anthony to “She Drives Me Crazy” by Young Animals. The coach even broke social distancing protocol when host Carson Daly announced the winner, running up to the stage and hugging the contestant.

From the very beginning, Shelton predicted that Anthony would be the show’s first “superstar.” And it appears he might be right.
