“Season 3 of #TheMaskedSinger is going to be an appealing work of art. #BananaMask #ArtBaselBanana,” the caption read. Very clever.
And while many fans of the show assumed the post was created to mock the viral art exhibit by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan at Art Basel Miami Beach (which featured an actual banana duct-taped to the wall), it’s been confirmed that the fruit is actually a real costume for the new season (at least, according to Entertainment Weekly).
Season two of the show, which features masked celebrities (and the celebrity-adjacent) taking on alter egos in full costume (e.g., the Penguin, the Monster, the Leopard) to perform songs anonymously in front of a live audience and a panel of judges, is currently airing on Fox (and is set to conclude next week).
So, there ya have it, ladies and gentlemen—the show’s first fruit-themed costume.
The third season of The Masked Singer is set to hit Fox after the Super Bowl on February 2, 2020.
