Watch Ansel Elgort in the Gripping New Trailer for ‘The Goldfinch’

The first official trailer for The Goldfinch is here, and we highly recommend you grab a box (or two) of tissues.

Warner Bros. just released a full-length teaser for the highly anticipated film, which is based on Donna Tartt’s novel of the same name.

In the trailer, we’re introduced to Theodore Decker (Ansel Elgort), a teen who is struggling to move on after his mother was killed in a terrorist attack at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

In an attempt to cope with his loss, Theodore steals a prized piece of art, called “The Goldfinch” (get it?), as a keepsake. When he gets taken in by a wealthy family, Theodore tries (and fails) to keep his secret.

The Goldfinch is directed by John Crowley (True Detective), and the screenplay is written by Peter Straughan (Tinker Tailer Soldier Spy). In addition to Elgort, the movie also stars Nicole Kidman (Big Little Lies), Sarah Paulson (American Horror Story), Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things), Luke Wilson (Legally Blonde) and Jeffrey Wright (Westworld).

*Sniff, sniff* Is that an Oscar nomination we smell? The Goldfinch will hit theaters on Friday, September 13.
