Remember the ’80s TV show turned movie franchise, The Equalizer? Well, it’s officially making a comeback.
CBS just released the first trailer for its all-new series, The Equalizer, which stars Queen Latifah as a single mother named Robyn McCall.
The trailer introduces viewers to Robyn, who is playing coy with her daughter, Delilah (Laya DeLeon). “What’s up with you, mom? Out of nowhere you quit your job last month, you wanna talk about it?” Delilah says. Robyn responds, “It’s complicated.” Cut to a montage of explosions, action scenes and armed raids.
Unfortunately, Robyn’s extracurricular activities aren’t sitting well with everyone. “This new side gig of yours is raising questions to the CIA,” an ex-CIA director (Chris Noth) says.
In addition to Latifah, DeLeon and Noth, the series also stars Tory Kittles (Marcus Dante), Lorraine Toussaint (Frieda “Aunt Fry” Lascombe), Liza Lapira (Melody Chu) and Adam Goldberg (Harry Keshegian).
The Equalizer originally premiered in 1985 and starred Edward Woodward, Keith Szarabajka and William Zabka. The story was later adapted for the big screen in 2014 with Denzel Washington.
It’s important to note that CBS’s version of The Equalizer might be completely different from the original story line. Although it followed a man named Robert McCall, he may (or may not) be related to Latifah’s character.
The Equalizer will premiere on Sunday, February 7, right after the Super Bowl, so mark your calendars.
