Netflix’s ‘The Crown’ Restarts Production After Short Hiatus Honoring Queen Elizabeth’s Passing

Lights, camera, action: Netflix’s The Crown has resumed production after taking a short break out of respect for the late Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away at the age of 96.

In a series of photos (obtained by People), members of the cast and crew were photographed filming in a town near Barcelona, Spain, earlier this week. One picture showed actress Elizabeth Debicki playing the late Princess Diana. In an effort to recreate her trip to Bosnia in 1997, Debicki looked like the spitting image of the royal (Diana is seen below)—sporting a pink button-down shirt, gold earrings and black pants.

Following the queen’s passing, The Crown creator Peter Morgan released an official statement and announced that the series would stop filming out of respect for the monarch. The popular drama series follows Queen Elizabeth II and her rise to power.

The Crown is a love letter to [the Queen] and I’ve nothing to add, for now, just silence and respect,” he told Deadline. “I expect we will stop filming out of respect too.”

After the show premiered on the streaming service, director Stephen Daldry told the news outlet that the show would stop production out of respect, if the queen passed away. “None of us know when that time will come but it would be right and proper to show respect to the Queen. It would be a simple tribute and a mark of respect. She’s a global figure and it’s what we should do,” he said at the time.

Since The Crown has only just resumed production, we still don’t know if the show will keep its original fall premiere schedule. (FYI, season five was supposed to debut sometime in November 2022). Until we get more info, we’ll just have to keep our eyes peeled for any new deets.
