Taylor Swift’s ‘Cats’ Premiere Gown Sadly Didn’t Feature Any Cats

Taylor Swift’s love of cats is well documented. Her Scottish Fold cats Olivia Benson and Meredith Grey, as well as her Ragdoll Benjamin Button, are prominent figures on her Instagram account and they’ve done everything from make appearances in her music videos to pop up in Deadpool 2. They even have trademarked names and merch.

So, when Swift signed on to star in the filmic adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats, pretty much everyone agreed it was a sensible decision. So why, pray tell, did she not pay homage to her furry friends with her Cats New York premiere gown?

Don’t get us wrong. The newly 30-year-old singer looked incredible in an ornate red and black silk strapless ballgown. But again, it didn’t appear to include any cats in its floral print. A lost opportunity to pledge her allegiance, if we do say so ourselves.

Swift paired her Oscar de la Renta dress, which had pockets (!), with red silk strappy heels and her signature crimson red lipstick and winged liquid eyeliner. She wore her blonde locks in a classic updo, left her thick bangs loose and completed the ensemble with dainty drop earrings.

The Grammy winner plays Bombalurina in the upcoming adaption of the musical and was recently nominated along with Webber for a Golden Globe for Best Original Song. Although reviews of the film and trailer (both critical and from the general public) have been, um, not great, Swift’s costar Rebel Wilson told PureWow earlier this year that Swift will “definitely be the sexiest cat out of all of us” and that her song “Macavity” is supposedly fantastic.

Cats hits theaters on December 20, 2019. We’ll have to wait and see what Olivia Benson, Meredith Grey and Benjamin Button think.
