What does it take to live to 90-plus years old? A spotless diet? Consistent exercise? Probably, but it also takes some wine.
That’s according to a study at the University of California at Irvine (aptly called The 90+ Study), which has been examining nonagenarians in the United States since 2003.
By analyzing the daily habits of 1,700 people over the age of 90, researchers have discovered that those who consumed approximately two glasses of beer or wine a day were 18 percent less likely to experience a premature death.
Why? It’s actually pretty unclear. According to lead researcher Dr. Claudia Kawas, “I have no explanation for it, but I do firmly believe that modest drinking improves longevity.” And really, who are we to doubt her?
Cheers to getting, like, really old.
