If you think Beth and Randall on This Is Us are relationship goals, just wait until you hear how Sterling K. Brown landed his leading lady in real life.
Earlier today, Brown sat down with the ladies of The Talk and dished on how he won over his wife, Ryan Michelle Bathe, ten years ago.
According to the This Is Us star, he and Bathe dated on and off while attending Stanford before calling it quits. In the midst of braving the trials and tribulations of post-grad life, Brown had an epiphany: Bathe was the love of his life.
But, like all good things, convincing her to date him again didn’t come easy.
Brown explained, “I go to her apartment, I tell her, and she’s like, ‘Well, I’m working out right now.’ I was like, ‘No, I can see that—I’ll just talk to you while you’re on the treadmill.’ She’s like, ‘Well, I feel like going outside. So I’m gonna go on a run.’”
The real-life Randall continued, “So I’m, like, dressed [in a suit] and she starts running through Koreatown and I start running along with her. Brother had to work, but it was well worthwhile.”
And there you have it, folks. Somewhere, maybe in an underground jazz lounge in heaven, the ghost of William is smiling.
