Move over, Winterfell, because it seems your Lady is destined to rule all of the Seven Kingdoms.
Sophie Turner shared a Game of Thrones poster today of her character Sansa Stark sitting on the Iron Throne, and OMG, IS SHE WEARING DRAGON SCALES?
Although, don’t get your hopes too high, Sansa stans: The poster is part of a bigger set, which was released by HBO this morning and contains 20 in total (so, yeah, pretty much every major character has their behind firmly planted on the throne). Still, there are some big clues in this pic of the Lady of Winterfell, as we mentioned earlier (and pardon our all caps).
We already know Daenerys and Sansa meet for the first time in this final season (coming April 14), as evidenced by the teaser trailers. During the Golden Globes, HBO debuted new footage from season eight that depicts Sansa Stark, Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen at Winterfell, and it’s basically a bro introducing his new quirky girlfriend to his fam. Sansa coldly tells Dany “Winterfell is yours, your grace,” as super-in-love Jon Snow looks nervous as hell. Damn, it’s gonna be like that, then?
So why is Sansa wearing a dress made of a material that looks eerily similar to dark black dragon hide? And where are her traditional Winterfell furs? Well, it could just be a glimpse of Sansa’s new armor, which she teased during an interview with Entertainment Weekly last week.
“This is the first time I’ve had armor,” Turner said. “She’s like the warrior of Winterfell,” she continued, although it won’t be your typical idea of armor. Instead, the armor will be made of thick “jet-black leather.”
“We [had] the idea of it being very protective and she buttons herself up. I wanted her to have a bit of armor and be a bit more warrior like,” Turner said.
Or, perhaps this really is dragon hide…and this outfit symbolizes Sansa taking back her relinquished control from Queen Dany. For starters, she doesn’t look too pleased to say the words “Winterfell is yours, your grace,” in that teaser (TBH, she looks PISSED), so maybe this is a subtle sign from GoT that it’s not actually going to go down how it seems (because of course Sansa wouldn’t go down without a fight).
Whatever the case, Sansa’s wearing some smoky navy blue eye shadow…and is this from the new Urban Decay x GoT collection? (Because we seriously don’t need any more convincing to buy up the entire inventory.)
Season eight premieres in 44 days (not like we’re counting or anything…).
