‘Smoked Marshmallow’ Is the Latest Gourmand Hair Color Trend, and It’s Surprisingly Low-Maintenance

From cream soda to coconut, the variations on blonde hair are endless. What’s next?

“Smoked marshmallow hair” is the latest color trend picking up steam, and it looks so easy to pull off.

What is it, exactly? The technique—courtesy of Bakersfield, California–based colorist Megan Martinez—starts with medium-brown roots and lighter ends. From there, ask your stylist to blend highlights and lowlights in varying shades of pale blonde.

The cool-but-cozy look is a great way to go blonde without bleaching your entire head, and the upkeep is much easier to maintain since your regrowth won’t look so severe.

We’re calling it: Rooty blonde is going to be big in 2019.
