‘Smash’ Fans, Rejoice! Katharine McPhee, Megan Hilty and the Rest of the Cast Are Reuniting to Screen ‘Bombshell’ in Quarantine

Fade in on a girl...er, a whole slew of fans that were totally devastated when Smash, the hit NBC show about two women—played by Katharine McPhee and Megan Hilty—both vying for the same Broadway part, was cancelled after two seasons.

Well, there’s a quarantine silver lining: The majority of the cast is reuniting on May 20 (tonight!) to screen “Bombshell in Concert,” a recording of the one-night-only fictional Marilyn Monroe musical that was performed on stage in 2015.

As a reminder, the music for the show-within-a-show was written by Tony- and Grammy Award-winning songwriters Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman. Back when the concert version was originally performed, it featured all the bells and whistles you’ve come to know and love from the series. Think fully fleshed-out stage numbers, an orchestra and chorus, too.

The majority of the OG cast, which includes McPhee and Hilty, but also Christian Borle, Debra Messing and Leslie Odom Jr., will join for the screening to reminisce and share behind-the-scenes details in a virtual conversation hosted by Julie Klausner and introduced by Renée Zellweger.

So, how can you watch? The streamed version of “Bombshell” will air at 8 p.m. ET on People.com and on all of People’s social channels as well. It’s free to watch, but it’s also a fundraiser to benefit the Actors Fund during the pandemic.

Excuse us while we cue up the soundtrack to prepare.
