Simone Biles may be in Tokyo but she’s celebrating more than just the 2020 Olympic games. The 24-year-old gymnast is marking her boyfriend Jonathan Owens's birthday with a sweet message from across the world.
On Thursday, Biles shared a slideshow of intimate pics on her personal Instagram account featuring selfies of the couple throughout their relationship. She accompanied the images with a lengthy heartfelt caption.
“Here in Japan, it is already my favorite person's birthday. HAPPY 26th BIRTHDAY BABE. @jowens_3 I love you so much,” she wrote. “Can’t wait to celebrate you when I get home! thanks for keeping me sane during the craziest times. an ear to vent to, someone to share fun times with and make the best of memories not sure how I got so lucky & what I’d do without you! But I hope you have the best day ever. Not too much fun without me tho hahaha. forever yours, S.”
If you didn’t know, Owens is currently a football safety for the Houston Texans. According to Texas Monthly, the duo first met on social media in March of 2020—right before the onset of the pandemic. But apparently, he wasn't yet aware of the gymnast's legendary status. He told the outlet, "Her work ethic was really the first thing that caught my eye. I never really watched gymnastics before I first started talking to her. When I met her, I honestly didn’t know who she was."
He continued, “We ended up hanging out right before the pandemic. It was one of the few times in her life where everything was just shut off and she couldn’t do anything. So we used it to get to know each other—really get to know each other. It created our bond and made it stronger. Now I’m so thankful."
Happy birthday, Jonathan! We hope you two get to celebrate after Simone brings home some gold medals.
