To say that the HBO adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s debut novel, Sharp Objects, was a terrifying viewing experience is an understatement. Even those who had read the book couldn’t help but be shocked by the show’s dramatic ending (catch up on the finale here).
And here’s another shocker—fans of the show may find themselves back in Wind Gap, Missouri, in the not-too-distant future. At a SXSW film conference this weekend, show-runner Marti Noxon hinted at a possible second season.
While the initial eight-episode limited series took viewers through the events of the novel, it didn’t delve into the full story of protagonist Camille (Amy Adams).
“Maybe there will be a sequel and we’ll get to find out,” Noxon said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “Gillian [Flynn] and I have some thoughts on it,” she added.
While unexpected, this wouldn’t be a totally unheard of move from the network. Fans are pointing to Big Little Lies as a precedent, the hit HBO show that was also based off of a single book but is now coming back for a second season.
Would a second season mean that mom Adora is released from prison? And what about Amma? Consider us excited—and scared.
