Shakira’s Two Sons Make Rare Public Appearance at 2023 VMAs (and They Look All Grown Up)

They're getting so big

Yesterday evening, Shakira, 46, attended the 2023 MTV VMAs to accept the Video Vanguard Award. The “Hips Don’t Lie” singer walked the pink carpet with her two sons—Milan (10) and Sasha (8)—who came to the awards ceremony to show support for their mom on her big night. And we couldn’t help but notice how much the young boys have grown since we last saw them walk the red carpet with their mom at the 2021 Balloon World Cup in Spain.

While walking the pink carpet, the Colombian singer (a four-time VMAs winner) turned heads in a stunning gold Versace dress that was cut out at the waist. And standing right by her side were her two boys, who sported matching Versace jumpsuits.

Later that night, Shakira hit the MTV stage (for the first time in 17 years, btw) to perform some of her most iconic songs, including “She Wolf,” “Te Felicito,” “Whenever, Wherever” and more.

When it came time for her to accept the honorary award, the artist thanked her friends, family and fans for supporting her throughout her journey.

“I want to thank my parents and my kids, Milan and Sasha, who are here. Thank you so much for cheering me up and making me feel like Mama can do it all,” the singer said while holding her silver spaceman trophy onstage.

She continued, “Especially, I want to share this award with my fans who always, always support me through thick and thin. Thank you so much for being my army and helping me fight all my battles. Este es para mi gente (This is for my people).”

In addition to the Video Vanguard Award, Shakira was also nominated for four awards as well as her double nom in the Best Latin category for her song “Acróstico” and her collaboration on “TQG” with Karol G—later taking home the award with the Latin artist.
