The news comes just a few weeks after HBO confirmed that Grey's Anatomy star Sara Ramirez would be joining the series as queer stand-up comedian Che Diaz. Meanwhile, Parker (Empire) will play a mom of three named Lisa Todd Wexley, Choudhury (Mississippi Masala) will play a successful real estate broker named Seema Patel, and Pittman (The Morning Show) will portray the character Dr. Nya Wallace, a Columbia Law professor.
HBO Max has yet to confirm how their lives will connect with the main characters, but it's clear that fans are thrilled to see more representation. In response to Parker's Instagram post, one fan wrote, "So excited for some diversity!" Another added, "Love seeing the diversity being brought to the franchise!"
Back in February, HBO Max's chief content officer Casey Bloys revealed that the upcoming reboot will not only have better representation on screen, but also have more diverse talent working behind-the-scenes. He revealed that Parker and series writer Michael Patrick King "didn’t want to tell a story with all-white writers or an all-white cast. It’s not reflective of New York. So they are being very, very conscious about understanding that New York has to reflect the way New York looks today."
A more inclusive writing room and more diverse actors? We'd say they're already off to a very good start.
