Here's What the ‘SATC’ Characters' Apartments Would Look Like Today, According to an Interior Designer

Can you believe it’s been 20 years since Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) walked her stilettoed feet into our hearts?

In honor of the 20th anniversary of Sex and the City, Modsy, an interior design startup, reimagined how Carrie’s apartment might look if she, Charlotte (Kristin Davis), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Samantha (Kim Cattrall) were to style it today, and it’s pretty dang perfect. Keep reading for a comparison of the characters’ spaces, along with decor commentary from Alessandra Wood, Modsy’s director of style.

Carrie: Then

It may not be the cleanest, but Carrie’s original apartment looks cozy AF.

Carrie: Now

The new version has a similar ambiance, but with a touch of modernization. The best part? The eclectic sofa is a tribute to the blue walls seen throughout Carrie’s space in the Sex and the City movie.

“As a nod to the ’60s era mid-century pieces in Carrie’s original apartment, we selected pieces with mid-century bones,” Wood said.

Charlotte: Then

Dark-toned wood, FTW.

Charlotte: Now

Since Charlotte isn’t a “Netflix and Chill” type of girl, Modsy opted for a sharp design fit for entertaining.

“We pegged her as a refined connoisseur, a mix of all things classic with a minimal twist. A curator by nature, we selected an elegant blend of pieces, all of course displaying a tastefully conservative palette,” she explained.

Miranda: Then

Miranda’s apartment was, well, pretty dang drab on the show. (No offense, Cynthia Nixon.)

The reimagined version features a similar color scheme with a modern twist. The green and red accents complement the neutral furniture without feeling too eclectic.

Wood said, “When designing her space, we opted for quality, lasting pieces that don’t have a lot of fuss and definitely no muss. Miranda had a lawyer’s salary but not a lot of time. So we took her shopping at places like Pottery Barn and Crate & Barrel.” Sounds like our type of gal.

Samantha: Then

When in doubt, keep it simple.

Samantha: Now

For Samantha’s makeover, minimal glam is the way to go. They combined bold sophistication with the character’s, er, sex drive to get this modern look. After all, who doesn’t want a velvet couch?

“We thought Samantha would appreciate a full sensory experience in her home, so we picked pieces that would appeal to both the eye and the touch,” she said. “We mixed materials like leather, velvet, fur and gold for a glamorous and moody space to entertain (and we don’t mean cheese and crackers kind of entertaining).”

We see what you did there, and we’re all for it.
