Serena Williams Just Made the U.S. Open Finals…Again

Serena Williams fans are jumping for joy after the professional tennis player made the U.S. Open finals for the tenth time.

The 37-year-old athlete secured her spot in the championship game after defeating Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina in last night’s semi-final match, winning the first two sets with a score of 6-3 and 6-1.

This means that Williams will face off against Canada’s Bianca Andreescu in the final round on Saturday, September 7. But just because her opponent is only 19 years old doesn’t mean she should be overlooked.

In fact, Andreescu has already built an impressive record in her budding professional career. In yesterday’s semi-final match, she beat Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic in two thrilling sets.

So, why is the upcoming final such a big deal? Well, Williams only needs one more “W” to tie Margaret Court’s record of 24 Grand Slam singles titles. However, it wouldn’t be a total upset if the player doesn’t win.

Although Williams has won 23 Grand Slam titles in her career, she hasn’t had a successful final since giving birth to her daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian, in September 2017. According to the tennis player, her plan for the upcoming match is to stay cool, calm and collected on the court.

“Obviously there’s a lot of things that I’ve learned in the past,” Williams told The New York Times. “But I just have to go out there and, above all, most of all, just stay relaxed.”

May the odds be ever in your favor, ladies.
