Selena Gomez Just Broke This Major Instagram Record

We hope Selena Gomez has 400 candles and a big cake, because the 30-year-old star just reached a major new milestone on Instagram. The Only Murders in the Building actress has surpassed 400 million followers on the social media platform, becoming the first woman to ever do so.

Gomez is currently the fourth most-followed account on Instagram, behind footballers Cristiano Ronaldo (562 million) and Lionel Messi (442 million). The most-followed account is the official Instagram profile, which has 618 million followers.

Gomez celebrated the achievement by posting the slideshow seen above. In the carousel, the “Love You Like a Love Song” singer poses with fans at various events. Gomez captioned the post: “Wishing I could hug all 400 million of you [heart emoji].”

Fellow celebs sent their congratulations to Gomez, like Jonathan Van Ness, who commented a series of heart-eyed emojis and wrote, “Aweee honey!!!” Actress Bea Alonzo wrote, “We love you, queen!!”

In February, the Selena + Chef star passed Kylie Jenner to become the most-followed woman on Instagram. Jenner currently sits with an impressive 382 million followers.

However, Gomez has talked about her complicated relationship with Instagram in the past. In 2022, she told InStyle, “At one point Instagram became my whole world, and it was really dangerous. In my early 20s, I felt like I wasn't pretty enough. There was a whole period in my life when I thought I needed makeup and never wanted to be seen without it. The older I got, the more I evolved and realized that I needed to take control of what I was feeling. I wanted to be able to look in the mirror and feel confident to be who I am. Taking a break from social media was the best decision that I've ever made for my mental health.”
