‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ Star Samira Wiley Celebrated Mother’s Day with a Surprise Baby Announcement

This just in: Samira Wiley is officially a mom.

Yesterday, the Handmaid’s Tale star, 34, shared a major announcement in honor of Mother’s Day: She and her wife, Lauren Morelli, secretly welcomed their first child together, a baby girl named George Elizabeth.

Wiley announced the exciting news by sharing a frame-worthy photo of the newborn holding onto her moms’ fingers. The caption read, “Happy 1st Mother’s Day to my beautiful wife, who four weeks ago today after laboring for almost 3 days gave birth to our first child—our gorgeous daughter, George. [heart emoji].”

She continued, “Welcome to the world, baby girl. We love you and we thank you for giving us the best 1st Mother’s Day two ladies could ask for.”

Morelli posted the same photo on her personal Instagram account and wrote, “4 weeks ago today, our daughter came into the world and changed everything. We are so happy, so grateful, and so tired. George Elizabeth, 4.11.21 [heart emoji].”

We first learned about Wiley’s relationship with Morelli back in 2016, when the Orange Is the New Black star announced that she had popped the question in Palm Springs, California. In 2017, the pair tied the knot in an intimate ceremony, which took place at the same venue as their engagement. They wore custom looks by Christian Siriano—a ball gown for Wiley, and a jumpsuit for Morelli.

Shoutout to the new parents for keeping this secret for as long as they did.
