Royal News Roundup: Kate Middleton Cuts Her Hair, Prince William Copies Meghan Markle & Princess Beatrice Takes Glamour Shots

HERE, ALL THE ROYAL NEWS YOU NEED TO KNOW FOR THE WEEK OF JULY 16, 2020.

  • On Monday, the Duchess of Cambridge helped launch Tiny Happy People, a BBC Education initiative providing a range of free digital resources, specifically designed to support parents and carers in developing children’s language from pregnancy to the age of four. She also met with three families to chat about the program for an interview which aired on July 14. Not to mention, she debuted a brand-new ’do.
  • Meghan Markle was recently accidentally listed as "Dr. The Duchess of Sussex" on an official government website. According to The Sun, the problem arose when the duchess and her husband, Prince Harry, recently filed paperwork to formally close down their charity, SussexRoyal. Apparently, the mistake originated from a “filing error” by the Companies House staff.
  • This week, the Royal Collection Trust—which looks after the Royal Collection, one of the most important art collections in the world—announced that an official Buckingham Palace gin is now available for purchase. Of course, the Trust wasn’t going to share the big news without accompanying it with a recipe.

London/New York photographer Phil Poynter released two never-before-seen pictures of Princess Beatrice on his Instagram page. The images were shot for Chaos SixtyNine Magazine (which is actually a poster book) and featured a gorgeous black-and-white shot of Queen Elizabeth’s granddaughter as well as one of solely her luscious lips.

  • This week, the Duchess of Cornwall paid a visit to the Royal Hospital Chelsea in London to attend a parade and meet with Chelsea Pensioners. During the event, she also chatted with staff and serving army personnel. For the occasion, the 72-year-old looked elegant in a white dress, cream gloves and a matching clutch. She topped off her look with a wide-brimmed sun hat, that felt very summer-appropriate.
  • Sophie, Countess of Wessex, was informally promoted by palace aides when she attended an official royal engagement at the Half Moon Pub. The promotion is likely due to the queen’s need to fill the space left by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s exit (ya know, since the number of royal family members to fulfill official duties was diminished).
  • It was announced this week that on Friday, Her Majesty will be conducting a knighthood ceremony for Tom Moore, a 100-year-old captain who has raised over $40 million for the U.K.'s National Health Service. The event will be the first up-close and in-person engagement for the monarch since the lockdown began in March.
  • Prince William followed in the footsteps of his sister-in-law Meghan Markle (on the small screen). On Wednesday, the official Kensington Royal Instagram shared a short United for Wildlife film in which William is the narrator and calls upon international organizations to get involved in conservation.
