Royal Family Members Make Rare Podcast Appearance & Prince William Reveals the One Time a Sporting Event Made Him Cry

A royally good sports chat

From the palace to a...pod? Turns out, Meghan Markle, 42, isn't the only royal who enjoys a good podcast. In the latest episode of the The Good The Bad & The Rugby—a show which describes itself as the world’s biggest rugby podcast—Prince William, 41, Kate Middleton, 41, and the Princess Royal, 73, stopped by to talk sports.

A clip from the episode was shared to the official royal family Instagram account, where we got a glimpse of the rare royal sit-down. “Great chatting all things rugby and much more on @GoodBadRugby,” the caption read, along with an emoji of a rugby football.

In the clip, we see one moment where the Prince of Wales discusses the only sporting event that’s ever made him cry—when his cousin, Zara Tindall, won an individual gold medal at the European Eventing Championship in Blenheim in 2005.

“The only time I've ever cried watching a sport was when Zara won, I think it was the European Championship,” Prince William said. Princess Anne jumped in, adding, “Well that was incredible,” to which the prince agreed and said, “I'm down in Exmoor, I think at the time...and she's there, she's blubbing away and the flag was going up. And I was just in pieces.”

In this moment, Princess Catherine also mentions that she remembers her husband coming home following Tindall's win and saying that he'd “never been so proud.”

You can watch the full episode, which was filmed at Windsor Castle, above, or you can stream it on Apple Podcasts or Spotify.

Throughout the episode, the royals talked about loads of other subjects. In one instance, the Princess of Wales talks about how rugby and football (or as we might call it across the pond, soccer) weren't available for girls to play in school, but now, her 8-year-old daughter, Princess Charlotte, is playing both of them.

Meanwhile, the trio of royals also talked about their roles as patrons of the Scottish Rugby Union (Princess Anne), the Welsh Rugby Union (Prince William) and the Rugby Football Union (Princess Catherine). Plus, the Princess Royal got the opportunity to show off her extensive knowledge of rugby.

We need more royal pod appearances in the future.
