Now that Christmas is over, we’ve been wondering what’s next for the British royal family. For example, how will they spend New Year’s Eve? Well, we did some sleuthing to find out.
There’s a good chance things will be different this year, like they were with Christmas. However, the royal family typically spends New Year’s Eve at Queen Elizabeth’s Norfolk country estate, Sandringham House, where she hosts a party that continues past midnight. The following day, everyone attends the New Year’s Day service at St. Mary Magdalene Church, which is walking distance from the royal residence. Obviously, it makes sense for the monarch to alter these plans due to the coronavirus pandemic.
After church, Queen Elizabeth reportedly engages in multiple outdoor activities, like horseback riding and pheasant hunting. (Yes, you read that right.) “The activity is typically a must for the royals (and those staying with them) on New Year’s Day,” Cheat Sheet reports.
The queen is usually accompanied by Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, in addition to other members of the extended family. This includes Zara Philips and her husband, Mike Tindall, along with Peter Philips and his wife, Autumn. (Plus, the great-grandkids.)
