Fox Is Warming Up Its Vocal Cords for a ‘Rent’ Live Musical Extravaganza

It may not the first of the month, but Fox is cashing its Rent check.

The Broadway musical we've seen approximately 525,600 times is getting the live musical treatment from Fox just in time for its 20th anniversary. Rent, an homage to Puccini's La Bohème, tells the tale of seven artists residing in New York's East Village during the rise of the AIDS epidemic.

It's been a day full of kickball-changes for the network. Fox also announced plans to release an adaptation of the holiday classic A Christmas Story. Superstar producer Marc Platt (Grease: Live!, La La Land, Wicked) will oversee both adaptations.

The theatrical extravaganza comes as a follow-up to the network's highly successful 2016 GreaseLive! special. Fingers crossed that Fox's forthcoming Rent trailer isn’t as off-putting as ABC’s Dirty Dancing reboot. Kthanksbye.
