On Monday, we reported that Kaling and Dan Goor (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) have signed on to pen the screenplay for Legally Blonde 3. According to Deadline, Witherspoon is still on board to reprise her role as Elle Woods (thank god) and will also be producing alongside Marc Platt.
The Big Little Lies actress posted her response to the news on Instagram with a photograph of Kaling in a cloud robe recreating one of the scenes from the original film.
“Great news alert!! Some things are just meant to be! I’m SOOO excited to have @MindyKaling and #DanGoor writing Legally Blonde 3!,” she captioned the post. “This is #ElleWoodsApproved!”
The Office star also shared her excitement on social media writing, “Finally some use for my Elle Woods fan fiction! So excited to be reunited with my friends @reesewitherspoon @laurenneu and Dan Goor to work on this movie. Elle Woods is so iconic, proving you can be girly and smart at the same time. Bend and snap people!”
The original screenwriters, Kirsten Smith and Karen McCullah, were reportedly returning to write the latest film, however, things seem to have shifted. Deadline states that Kaling and Goor’s version won’t be “a makeover,” but instead the screenplay will have an entirely “new fresh spin.”
Now, is it too much to ask for a Mindy cameo?
