Watch Reese Witherspoon’s Son Patiently Teach Her About Dapping on TikTok

First, Reese Witherspoon enlisted her 16-year-old son, Deacon Phillippe, to teach her about TikTok. And now, the 43-year-old actress is educating herself on the social media platform, one slang term at a time. Next up? Dapping.

Yesterday, Witherspoon posted a video on her personal Instagram account, featuring the moment she asked Phillippe to teach her about dapping. (It’s basically a cool name for a choregraphed handshake.)

In the clip, Witherspoon asks the question that moms across America have been wondering for months: What is “dapping”?

“Deacon, thank you for teaching me about TikTok,” she says. “It’s been so much fun. I have another question though: You said that you’re going to dap somebody up. What does that mean to dap somebody?”

Phillippe explains the concept, saying, “It’s basically just a handshake that I do with my friends.”

After discovering that “dabbing” and “dapping” are two completely different things, Witherspoon gives it a shot. During the lesson, she has a few suggestions that are quickly shot down by Phillippe.

“Do we make a noise, or anything?” Witherspoon asks. To which Phillippe replies, “No, we don’t make a noise. That’s weird.”

It takes Witherspoon a few tries to get the hang of it, but by the end of the video, the actress is a dapping master. “That’s all it is?” she says.

Cool mom vibes? Check.
