New York Fashion Week has never been realer thanks to Rebecca Minkoff’s spring/summer 2020 presentation.
Yesterday, the eponymous designer unveiled her newest collection and inspired women in the process. You see, Minkoff took this season’s reveal as an opportunity to “showcase all the parts of a woman, from working to having a family,” and that meant featuring models who were pumping, breastfeeding and pregnant.
Like no other designer before her, Minkoff, a mother of three, took the opportunity to proudly celebrate femininity in all stages of a woman’s life. One model strutted her stuff with a Medela portable breast pump ($379; $325) peeking out of her Pippa top handle bag with pearl accents ($298). On the brand’s Instagram Stories, the new mom casually danced to the musical stylings of DJ Pamela Tick while pumping away.
The fashion and accessories brand released a statement saying that Minkoff opted to include the Medela pump and a breastfeeding model in the set design because “motherhood remains an integral part of Rebecca’s daily life.” As she wrote on her personal Instagram, Medela’s “products have been with me on my #breastfeeding journey for 8 years! (Not consecutive mind you that would be a Nobel prize). This company supports women at one of the most vulnerable times in their lives and supports women through enabling us to feed our babes whilst we werk.” Amen, Rebecca.
In addition to the pumping mom, Minkoff’s presentation also featured a pregnant mom-to-be and a model breastfeeding her child.
Sure, Ashley Graham walked the 2019 Ralph Lauren runway pregnant and Slick Woods walked in Fenty’s 2018 presentation while with child (then immediately went into labor), but Minkoff’s show was inclusive to moms at all stages in a way other shows haven’t been.
All we can say is way to celebrate the journey of motherhood, Rebecca. We’re all about it.
