The Royal Fam Just Gave Us a Rare Look Inside Windsor Castle

Queen Elizabeth is back to her royal duties at Windsor Castle after recovering from a recent injury (and she’s even giving us a peek inside).

On Wednesday, the official royal family Instagram account shared an image of the 95-year-old monarch conducting an in-person audience at the estate with General Sir Nick Carter. (If you didn’t know, audiences are one-on-one meetings with the queen and are an important part of her daily work.) Per the caption, the audience was held “upon the relinquishment of his appointment as Chief of the Defence Staff.”

In the snap, we see the monarch standing alongside Carter in one of the estate’s Audience rooms. In the background, we see a large painting and a variety of family photos. The space also includes a maroon carpet and a gold accent chair. How regal.

Queen Elizabeth's return comes days after she was unable to attend this weekend’s Remembrance Sunday services. In a message from Buckingham Palace, it was revealed that Her Majesty had sprained her back prior to the ceremony.

The official statement said, “The Queen, having sprained her back, has decided this morning with great regret that she will not be able to attend today's Remembrance Sunday Service at the Cenotaph. Her Majesty is disappointed that she will miss the service.”

A royal source also added, “The Queen was deeply disappointed to miss the engagement which she considers one of the most significant engagements of the year, and hopes to continue as planned with her schedule of light official duties next week.”

Welcome back, Your Majesty.
