Behold: A New Regal Portrait of Queen Elizabeth Unveiled at Her Scottish Residence
Queen Elizabeth’s mantra? Another day, another regal royal portrait unveiling.
Her Majesty looks, well, like the queen she is in her new portrait, which is now on display at her Holyroodhouse residence in Edinburgh, Scotland.
In the stately oil painting by artist Nicky Philipps, the 92-year-old monarch poses in the ceremonial robes and collar of the Order of the Thistle, the highest order of chivalry in Scotland. (Fun fact: Queen Elizabeth just so happens to be sovereign of the order.) Behind her is a view of the nearby Salisbury Crags cliffs.
The portrait, commissioned by The Royal Collection Trust for the enjoyment of visitors to Holyroodhouse, is now on display in the royal dining room next to a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II’s mother, Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother.
Looks like we need to take a wee trip to Scotland. Ya know, for research.
