This Diamond Necklace Worn by Queen Elizabeth and Kate Middleton Is Now on Display at Buckingham Palace

First it was a Princess Diana painting, and now, there's a new royal artifact going on public display. On the official royal family Instagram account, they shared a slideshow of photos featuring Queen Elizabeth and Kate Middleton wearing the stunning Nizam of Hyderabad diamond necklace, which is now available to admire in person, thanks to a new exhibit at Buckingham Palace.

“The necklace was given to then Princess Elizabeth as a wedding present in 1947 from the Nizam (ruler) of Hyderabad,” they wrote in the caption. “The Nizam left instructions with the firm of Cartier in London that Princess Elizabeth should select a wedding gift herself, and this platinum necklace set with approximately 300 diamonds was chosen. Her Majesty has continued to wear the necklace throughout her reign and has also loaned it to The Duchess of Cambridge.”

The first photo of the slideshow is Queen Elizabeth's official portrait, which was taken by Dorothy Wilding only days after her accession to the throne. “Her Majesty wears a Norman Hartnell satin evening dress with the insignia of the Order of the Garter, the George IV Diamond Diadem and a diamond bracelet that was a wedding gift from The Duke of Edinburgh,” they added in the caption.

However, our eyes are laser-focused on the necklace, and to give us a closer look at the dazzling piece of jewelry, the following shot is a close-up view of it. Following this, we see a snap of the queen wearing the necklace years later, and then, we see a pic of Middleton wearing it to the Portrait Gala in February 2014.

Middleton has actually borrowed this necklace (which is estimated to cost around $70 million dollars) on a number of occasions. When she attended the Queen’s 2019 Diplomatic Corps Reception, she also was spotted wearing the eye-catching accessory.

Interested viewers can see the necklace, along with the queen's official portrait and other special artifacts, from July 22 to October 2 at Buckingham Palace.

The royals sure know how to accessorize.
