Queen Elizabeth Has a Fun Tradition Whenever Her Great-Grandkids Sleep Over

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be a guest at Queen Elizabeth’s royal residence, you’ve come to the right place.

In the ITV documentary Our Queen at 90, Kate Middleton shared never-before-heard details about the sleepovers that the monarch hosts with her great-grandchildren. The Duchess of Cambridge revealed that the queen leaves a special present in each room for the kids to open upon arrival.

“[The Queen] always leaves a little gift or something in their room when we go and stay. And that just shows her love for her family,” she said (according to Mirror).

Middleton didn’t elaborate on the type of gifts that Queen Elizabeth gives, but we imagine it being something along the lines of a stuffed animal, a baked treat or a craft to keep them occupied during their stay.

In the documentary, the Duchess of Cambridge also recalled a heartwarming story about her first holiday with the royal family. “I can remember being at Sandringham, for the first time, at Christmas, and I was worried what to give the Queen as her Christmas present,” she explained. “I was thinking, ‘Gosh, what should I give her?’”

Middleton continued, “I thought back to what I would give my own grandparents. And I thought, ‘I’ll make her something,’ which could have gone horribly wrong. But I decided to make my granny’s recipe for chutney.”

“I was slightly worried about it, but I noticed the next day that it was on the table,” the royal added. “I think such a simple gesture went such a long way for me and I've noticed since she's done that on lots of occasions, and I think it just shows her thoughtfulness, really, and her care in looking after everybody.”
