Who Is the Queen’s Favorite Great-Grandchild? Here’s What One Royal Expert Has to Say

Queen Elizabeth has quite a large family—four kids, eight grandchildren and ten (soon to be 12) great-grandchildren. And while she shares a special relationship with each and every one of her family members, royal expert Ingrid Seward is opening up about which great-grandchild is likely her favorite.

According to Woman & Home magazine, Seward recently revealed that Princess Charlotte is definitely “a favorite,” due to her age and their mutual love for horses.

“While Prince Philip loved babies, the queen has always preferred being around children when they are a bit older, especially if it involves teaching them to sit astride a horse,” Seward said per the outlet. “Princess Charlotte—who is pony-mad—has always been a favorite. The Duchess of Cambridge revealed that when she was born, the queen ‘was really thrilled’ she was a girl."

We’re not totally surprised the 6-year-old has picked up her Gan-Gan’s favorite hobby. Charlotte started taking horseback riding lessons at 3 years old, the same age as her great-grandmother. In fact, all of the Cambridge children even have their own ponies which they are required to help care for.

As we mentioned above, Charlotte is one of ten of Liz’s great-grandchildren. The 94-year-old monarch is also a great-grandma to Savannah and Isla Philips, Mina, Lena and Lucas Tindall, Prince George and Prince Louis, Archie Harrison Mountbatten Windsor and August Philip Hawke.

As of this time next year, Her Majesty will have two more added to the list. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are expecting their second child this summer, while Princess Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, will welcome their first child later this year.

Of course, we know Liz likely doesn’t actually pick favorites. But it’s sweet to see her special connection with Char.
